You hear all the time of footballers having testemonials and earning quite a bit. I think it would be a nice Idea if when a footballer dies the club organised a testimonial for that player and they could give the proceeds to any dependants/family to ease their suffering and help them get by in hard times. It was the deaths of Les Sealy, Sheffield weds defender Staniforth and Aaron Flavahan of Portsmouth that made me think of this. I think this would be a caring and important gesture by a club and should be considered by these clubs to help these people in the future.
I think that would be a good idea. It certainly makes more sense than the greedy testemonials already wealthy players have nowadays. Take Ryan Giggs for example - it's not as if he's struggling to make ends meet. Testemonials were invented back when players weren't so well off, and needed the money to help them in life. Nowadays they're just an excuse to give millionaire footballers some extra millions.
