Well maybe.

A few years back when rumours of Microsoft first making a games console surfaced, most people scoffed at the thought. Today the Xbox is well established.

A year or so back when the Phantom first appeared on the net, most people thought it was a hoax. Many of you think otherwise. I believe in it however, as Infinium Labs listed actual people in the games industry who were apparently involved. A phone call with one of them cleared it up, the Phantom did exist.

Fact is that many people have chanced their luck in the console market. Atari had another go with the Jaguar. Sony were a seemingly unlikely entrant 10 years ago. But not only did they enter the market, they took over and dominated the market.

But even now, companies are still interested in releasing their own consoles. Understandable really, as nowadays the games industry is worth more than Hollywood.

So ladies and gentleman, I thought you might like to know about some sort of event in the console market. I don't know the details, but it appears that there may be a new player.

Now for those of you who don't immediately know who VIA are, they are a Taiwanese computer company. They make chipsets for motherboards and various electronics. They even make computer processors. So they are capable of a console.

Possibly VIA are going to be working with Sony, MS or Nintendo in the next generation of games consoles. Perhaps that is what will be unveiled, a chipset.

Still, it is a new development in the games hardware industry and that excites me. So now I have another reason to look forward to the 8th of January. The other incidentally it being my birthday.

So any thoughts?

Wasnt it made so that you buy the games online then it downloads the game to the hard drive? And the broadband modem makes this easier.

What about future games? Will the support be downloadable through broadband?

As for PC games - this is somewhat of a relief. If it was going to play it's own games, there may be a huge lack of developer support.

Looks promising indeed, but I have my reservations...

More information out now about this thing.

It has an embedded version of Windows XP in it and it plays PC games. Without installing them and stuff. Preprogrammed to recognise over 2000 games.

I have heard of them and they are a big company therefore I feel would not make something like this up as some sort of a hoax. If it was a hoax and nothing happened from them, then it could get them into trouble on a large scale. Not like law trouble, but customers leaving.

But yeh if they were to break into the market I am not sure what it would bring, whether they would be able to match the new coming PS3 and XBOX2, yes both have been declared real and have a release date, preumably some time around this one. Not neccessarily though.

But yeh I am quite certain it is real, as to how good it will be, they're minnows compared to Sony and Microsoft.
