I have begun a list of gameplay flaws that keep recurring in video games, which in my opinion should be consigned to the bowels of gameplay history.

(1) Doors that can only be opened with a key.
Action/Adventures are always plagued with this stupidity. Why can't the game's main character just sift through his usually vast array of powerful weapons, pull out his double barrel shotgun and blow the door off its hinges? No. Instead we are forced to backtrack in search of a deviously hidden key. Annoying.

(2) So-called "realistic" handling.
Many racing games suffer from this - especially Formula One games. Driving on what feels like ice, slipping and sliding, does not in my book constitute realistic handling.

(3) End of level bosses.
9 out of 10 end of level bosses are either dull and predictable or a pain in the rump to kill. There must be other ways to bring a level to a more interesting and climatic end?

(4) Regenerating enemies.
You battle through a section of a game slaughtering enemies, then later on you have to return to that part of the game and BOOM! - all the enemies you killed before have regenerated and you have to dispose of them all over again. Totally destroys any sense of realism and progression.

These recurring aspects of gameplay/game structure drive me up the wall!

Another gameplay pet hate of mine is Random Battles in RPGs. Every 3 or 4 minutes no matter where you are they just happen. It's all to predictable for me. I want to play games like Skies of Arcadia and Grandia 2, but I can't because of the random battles.

Games that don't offer any reason to come back to them again. e.g. hidden extras, secrets. I don't like wasting my money....

I hate games that are made really hard so that they take you longer to complete.

I hate games without a built in joypad configuration option, so you get the buttons where you want them.

I also hate games that dont let you skip the FMV intro, or take ages to get started.

I hate games on the Playstation that should support a Playstation mouse but dont.

Red faction is different though. You dont need a key to open the door, you can just blast a hole through the wall!

But agreed in some other games it can get really annoying looking for one key to open a door. you could spend hours looking for somethin stupid, that only gets you a little bit further in the game. really spoils some games.
