Already Ninty and Sony are having their own Japanesegame shows- Spaceworld and Sony World (or whatever!). Other developers feel they don't need to be at Tokyo to show off their games: the turn out is getting so low.
In Europe the same is happening. Expect more than one of the major console makers to pull out of ECTS. Some may not even have their own European shows. At all. Developers follow in suit.
What will make developers change their mind? The market is huge, but they are escentially turning away from their biggest shows. Perhaps televerisation? That would get them coming back. Imagine a prime time TV show live from ECTS... the developers would line up.
Just goes to show- it's not the games that matter... it's how many they can sell.
