Which is the really great British sporting team of all time? Well many teams may fill your mind as having being dominant at their sport. there was Wigan who you could argue were the best rugby side ever in the late 80's and early 90's who from 1990 to 96 managed eight challenge cups.
Then theres those rowining teams of Steve redgrave and co who have succesfully dominated their sport and brought Britain back a shrewd of glory and often reminded us what it is to actually win.
The world of F1 is perhaps our most consistant success with teams like Williams and McLaren dominating for years. From 92 to 97 williams won every constructors championship; and McLaren have more race wins to their name than anyother F1 team in History.
There were also some grweat Liverpool sides in the late 70's to early 80's, but for the very best team and encapturating nationship is that of the 1966 world cup winners.
In 1966 england were the best football in the world; we havn't achieved that previously or indeed since and in the sport that is truly the British peoples most famous and rigourously fought around the world this is indeed a great achievment.
Names such as Charlton, Moorew, Banks and Hurst still pass the limps of school children today as true British heros and that team still today remain the pinnacle of British sport to which we often glance fondishly back at. For once English bravado about the the game we gave the world was justified.
Yes home advantages played a part, and yes the third goal in the final may not have been over the line but hay we still won 2-1.
England beat the world in the most global team sport and that is why this is the true all time great team.

These are both good contenders. And yes i would say a pair constitutes a team and by British I suppose I was just trying to include those Scottish and welsh teams, um well, thats if there are any. The 1974 British lions team wasn't bad.

I'd have so say that Manchester United's current team is looking good as a contender, given their current string of successes. If you can include it as a 'British' team that is.

Then of course there's Torville and Dean, the ice-skaters, who blew the world away with their Bolero routine. If you can count a pair as a team that is.
