Thank god for copy and paste, basically nothing changes except new subscribers can pay £60 for Xbox Live and get a copy of PGR2 bundled in.

Microsoft announces a new Xbox Live starter package and subscription renewal options for the online gaming service in Europe.

Microsoft has today announced that it will release a new special edition Xbox Live starter kit in Europe later this month, and has also confirmed the pricing for both monthly and annual subscription renewals. Xbox Live is currently enjoyed by around 100,000 gamers in Europe, where the service launched on March 14 last year. In addition to the standard £39.99 (US$73) Xbox Live starter kit, from the end of this month newcomers to Xbox Live will have the option to purchase a special edition starter pack for £59.99 (US$110) that also includes a copy of Project Gotham Racing 2. Both of the packs include a one-year subscription, and an Xbox Live communicator headset.

For existing Xbox Live players, Microsoft has confirmed that both monthly and annual subscription renewals will be available, priced at £4.99 (US$9) and £39.99 (US$73) respectively. Alternatively, existing subscribers have the option to purchase a second starter kit for the same price as an annual subscription, use the enclosed subscription code on their existing account so that they retain their gamertag and stats, and gain an extra communicator headset.

"We're committed to creating multiple entry points to Xbox Live that suit every budget and preference, and this new Starter Kit package is a great way for gamers to get in and start building their legend on Xbox Live," said Michel Cassius, senior director, Xbox platform and marketing. "And the renewal options make it easy to continue making friends and competing with rivals online. We've listened to gamers when developing these offers, and will be announcing further initiatives in the coming months to encourage even more gamers to join the growing Live community."

This is a good idea for me as I don't want MS taking any money off my credit card. How's it going to work though? Will you have to put the code in before your current sub expires, meaning you effectively lose a day or two? Not that bad then.

I just want them to hurry up with the messaging system they're planning!
Oh, and Halo 2.

Well if I remember rightly, up until now you could not buy a new Starter Kit and use the code from that to extend your old subscription. Now you can.

I would like to see more downloadable content, but seeing as Live is not even a year old in Britain yet, most companies are still developing Live games as opposed to supporting them more.

I think the next few months will see a lot more content being made available as there is now more of a market for it and most companies have a Live product now.

I'm not even opposed to paying for content either if there is enough of it. For example I would pay for a new world in KOTOR. But just a few items I wouldn't.

As Live gets an overhaul and more functionality added to it, I see it being more successful. There are quite a few good games out for it as it is, but I'd like to see more.

But Halo 2 and Conker Online are in development. As are Doom 3 and Half Life 2. I'd also expect Quake 4 to be on the Xbox as well. These are all big games as it were, likely to be good games and have live support.

OK, so they are all shooters. But they were the first ones I thought of and there are others.

Personally I'm happy enough with Live at the moment. I don't play it as much as some of you do, but I am still happy. And in the unlikely event I get bored with the five or so Live games I have before the next round of big games comes out, then I might start complaining.
