Now I know its neither Internet NOR web design but no other forum got close for this thread. I have noticed lately! as have several of my friends that in our recycle bins are several .BAK files all of email folders i.e. outbox.bak now I have to say I have only recently noticed this, but cant say in all my years with a computer have I noticed .bak files in the bin? is this normal? or more sinister?

A .bak file is a backup, I think.
I'd imagine they're being deleted because whatever program is making them in the first place goes through and removes those which are a certain age, ie when it thinks they're no longer useful to keep.
