Argh! I'd just got my ISDN access (thanks, Grix, for being the first to help me try it out) and now I had no internet access at all! Worse was to come, however.
As I got in the house after a walk around town that morning, then picking up my wife from work, I noticed the phone flashing away. A message.
"We had some problems and wonder whether you can bring the recovery discs in to us?" came the tinny voice from the phone's speaker. I looked at my watch, 5pm. I'd never make it to the shop, so I called to say I'd be in the next day.
Saturday night came and I saty there. Now normally I don't really spend too long on the net at weekends, but with my faster access and knowing that I couldn't actually get online, even if I wanted to, it made matters worse and I couldn't relax.
Sunday finally came and I rushed to the shop (and got there before it opened too!) I handed the disc over and went home (venturing into a clothes shop on the way to get my wife a surprise gift, it's amazing the looks you get as a bloke all alone in a woman's clothes store, but that's by the way) I'd just got in the door and the phone rang. It was the shop.
"er...we've tried and tried but your motherboard's incompatible with the graphics card..."
Oh well, time to pick the PC up again. Then the phone rang again, my wife had finished work early and wanted to be picked up. I knew full well that I'd promised to take her to the bee farm (don't ask, more on that later) so a plan had to be hatched. I wisked her back home in the car and we ate a quick lunch (it's amazing how fast you can put a couple of sandwiches together when you're motivated)
We set off, with a mission in mind, get to the PC store. The man was appologetic to the point where I thought he'd done something to my PC! But no, we got a refund and I said I'd wait to buy a different card later on. I managed to pick up a half price bag of computer tools though (including a great little compressed gas keyboard blaster!) which made me a bit happier, and we set off with computer in tow to the bee farm.
Needless to say, as soon as we got home (about 8pm) I started setting up. Re-installing all your drivers can be a nightmare sometimes, but five USB ports later and about 7 disc swaps and it was done. Checking to see that my modem worked brought up four boxes, almost at the same time. Ah yes, that would be my MSN being re-installed then, you guys don't miss an opportunity! So having to repeat myself four times, I quickly said hello then goodbye again, then made my way downstairs to relax with a good bottle of wine (at around 9.30!) before doing the swan dive into bed.
So, interesting weekend. Eventful? Yes, Internet? Alas no! But plenty of bees....
My week-end
Got up... ate breakfast... got washed/dressed... played computer... listened to football... went to work for while... played computer... went to bed.
Sunday... etc etc... got drunk.. went to bed.
Yeah mines seemed more stressful than yours ;)
