I'm looking at getting broadband. Tiscali do what they call a 5x Speed service for 19.99 per month. They say it's "up to 256kbps". I forget if I need 128 or 256 for Xbox Live.

If it's 256, then Tiscali is not for me, 'cos they can't guarantee it. So, what service provider do you use, and are they any good?

Cheers.

I use my Zazizam.com ADSL account (£19.99 a month) to connect my Xbox to the online gaming world - works perfectly, though its best if I dont have all 4 of my networked PCs on together, as the connection does slow if everyone else connected uses the connection alot by downloads, streaming, etc etc

- hope this helps

Yeah I noticed that with mine too. Can't go wrong really.

Yup, same here. Still, when it's just me on Xbox Live with no one on the PC's, everything runs very smoothly.

Cheers for the info. NTL don't supply in my area, so I'm back to BT. I don't think I want to risk the slower Tiscali speed, to be honest...

With BT you get a slightly faster connection speed:

My downstream is 576kbps and my upstream is 288kbps.

Doesn't really help much though as quite often my connection is split three ways when I'm on Live.

also NTL's 128k line is "128k minimum gauranteed", but everytime I have speed tested the connection it is more like 256k, it's not the same for everyone though, I'm just lucky.

I use NTL 128k line, fine on PGR2 with me and 3 other drivers (4 in total) no lag, but go above that and it struggles, you can suffice with 128k line, depends what your planning on doing on Live, with NTL also you can upgrade/degrade your line speed quite easily/quickly.

Did try a 12 player Sega GT Online race last night and just laughed, lag was worst I've ever seen.

I use 512k and admit I have had lag at times. Rare, but it's happened.

512k packages are going quite cheap these days anyway. BT is £27.99 but you can get less than that - £20-25 in places.

Pretty sure you need 512k for maximum performance.
