The government announced a register of paedophiles, and when the names and addresses of known paedophiles are published, then it is rethought, because of the feared lynchings that took place.
The nation must take an agreed attitude to paedophiles, and how they should be dealt with.
Soap operas claim that they portray a real problem in a realistic way, while the plot about one paedophile stalking a young girl over a long period of time, without being traced or anything suspected is unrealistic, and just fuels the feelings of violence towards paedophiles.
Brass Eye made very valid points on this subjects, and at the same time was very funny. It was however criticised for taking it too far.
People do not see that the feeling of the country and that of the government is not one and the same, and the program satirised the OTT reactions of knowing the whereabouts of paedophiles, and also the technology used in paedophilia. I am not knowledgable in this field, but I doubt very much that a games interaction with a child could ever stimulate these twisted people.
The governments view on paedophiles will be ignored until it shows that paedophiles will be locked up. They know where they live, and that they are dangerous to the public, and thus they should be dealt with accordingly.
As long as the government do not take on board the attitudes of the people, they will become alienated, as they do not see the importance of this issue.
It's just a shame that it took a comedy show grossly misinterpreted to bring the issue to the forefront of the news
One thing they are trying with paedophiles is to give them mediaction that completely destroys their sex drive.
If they have no desire, then why would they do it?
As for curing this?
Not sure that you can do.
Putting them in prison won't help at all, for this reason:
Put someone inside for committing a crime like robbery or murder, they can sit there and think "Damn, I won't do this again" so there is a possibility of rehabilitation.
However, to come to the decision that you wish to molest children is radically different that to decide to steal money or a similar "crime". One is based on a decision to obtain more wealth, or feed a drug addiction, basic desires that you feed - and get caught for, end up in prison.
But the moment you decide that that little kid is appealing?
You have made that step into a realm that 99% of people cannot understand nor wish to.
The second you consider something like that, then you are beyond any kind of "cure" or "help".
It's one thing to commit a crime, break a law that dictates how a person should act in regards to property or behaviour.
It's another to see a child as sexually alluring.
That is a mental condition, and once you have arrived there, I don't see how it can ever be turned back.
This discussion is not for me to try to understand, I'm neither a psychologist nor a paedophile. I can't begin to understand or explain what makes someone want to do that.
What I do know is, should you ever get the notion to do something to a kid?
Please, make sure you get your whole head in front of the shotgun.
Whether there's a cure for it or not I have no idea, but I know that people are now researching the subject from that angle rather than just branding them as criminals and putting them through the normal justice system, which doesn't seem to solve anything at present.
The main priority is the safety of children, and surely the only way that can be guaranteed given the evidence we have for reoffending is to keep the paedophiles locked up, whether that be in a prison or mental institution, until we know of a 100% cure.

Yeah but the problem is that it isn't entirely about mens private bits. There are ways of assulting a person/child without the use of this. Castration is rather a simplistic attituide. You've got rid of one method of inflicting the crime not the motivation to do it.As long as people have motivation to do the crime they will find a means.
1) The use of a register of offenders is unworkable for many reasons. Not only is there the lynch mentality of people who wish to get rid of these people in the area. Witness the harrassment of a Peadatrician in Wales during the Sarah Payne case - oh the irony of someone who has devoted their life to helping sick children being terrorised by an illiterate mob who mistake them for a peadophile. Secondly once identified Paeophiles simply move on. Taking the problem underground. I have a friend who's father has sexually abused children, he has not been convicted but had he done what would the implications for my friend had he been? Back to the biblical form of justice "the sins of the father punishing the children".
2) The most major problem is that this is a seriously recidivist crime. 80% of peadophiles go on to reoffend. The whole of idea of then sending them to jail to have them "rehabilitated" goes straight out of the window. What are the options then? Lock them up for ever/invest money in trying to find out therapies that will stop them reoffending? Simply stating that they should be locked up to prevent them from possibly commiting future crimes goes against the whole central tenent of justice system which is "Innocent until proven guilty". A hard case does not make good law.
3) Most abuse against children is committed by family members and friends. The pervert hanging round school playing grounds is far rarer. As someone who has a lot of professional contatct with social workers have you any idea how difficult it is for social services to intervene when they suspect abuse? The cliche is that social workers just turn up and rip apart close and loving families willy nilly. Not so, it takes months from the suspected abuse to going through the courts etc to get the children removed. An Englishmans home is his castle an all that. Social workers either don't do enough and leave children at risk or are seen as interfering do gooders. Soceity needs to decide who it wants to look after and the powers it will give the police/social workers to carry this out.
Finally peadophilia is the most horrendous crime. I saw a documentary about a case in America where an eight year old girl (Hannah?) was taken from her home, sexually abused and murdered in the most horrific way. It took the please 45 minutes to arrest the local man who had a history of child sex offences against him who had done this. Her parents campaigned for a new law - Hannahs Law which led to the register of sex offenders. It was singularly the most harrowing and disturbing programme I've ever seen. Imagine your child being murdered in a such a brutal fashion by someone known to the authorities. What a waste of a life.
So at the end of this rant the only conclusion I have is that the whole area is rife with complications. There is no easy answer. Yes we need to protect children, we also need to ensure we have a criminal justice system that is fair to all. How you reconcile these two I don't know. It would take a wiser person than me to work it out. I simply think that this is an issue that cannot be solved by the emotional knee jerk reactions it usually prompts.
