There are two types of disc for the Dreamcast, a boot disc which will allow you to play NTSC games from Japan or the States, and the DreamKey disc which allows you to connect to the DreamArena Online using your own ISP and avoiding call charges.

The problem with the first item is that it also allows people to play backup copies of DC games, which basically means that there is a thriving pirate market for them.

The second item I'm not so sure about, it works, but as to whether or not it denies Sega revenue I'm not sure.

As for both discs, I'm not sure about their legality, but I would guess that Sega dislike both of them.

There isnt one yet but I am 98.5% sure there is going to be one in few months.Oh yeah guess what. I saw a 13 year old walk into HMV today and he asked the member of staff if they sell anything that will help them play chipped games. The HMV bloke just said that there are loads of ways to do that but they dont support them.

Unless that particular console is over 75 years old of course, in which case the hardware copyright protection may have lapsed, if the manufacturer hadn't renewed or extended it in some form in the intervening years.

And as we ALL know, modifying a PSX or a PS2, or tampering with the internal architecture of any console, is illegal.

if you are talking about consoles. you require your console to be chipped to play import or copied games.
