You may sometimes have the evidence in your pocession without realising it.
Keep going back to the Lab and show anything new to Greg, the new item should now be tagged, and the evidence updated.
Then paying a visit to grumpy Brass (Police HQ) with the new evidence can often move the case forward.

The lockers may be a red herring... don't bother too much with them.
On the other hand you could try and find a sledgehammer and beat the crap out of them..
