I own a
AMD K6-2 533MHZ
320MB RAM
I have a built in Trident Blade 3D 8MB Graphics Driver
Built in Sound
My main prob. is that i donthave an AGP slot on my motherboard and am desperate to buy the Guillemont 3D Prophet 2 MX 64MB.
I have two alternatives
a) Buy new mother board with 4x AGP slot (Can i buy a decent Motherboard with a CPU on it for under £150???)
b)I could forget about buying a new motherboard and buy a Guillemont 2 32MB PCI
I am not sure of my motherboards name (could someone tell me how to find out!) but could i buy a New CPU (probably AMD between 700MHZ and 900MHZ) that would definitly be compatible???
So my questions are:
1) Would it be worth the money buying a new Motherboard, CPU and Ge-Force 2 64MB AGP or would i be better of buying a new CPU that would fit my old Motherboard and a Ge-Force 2 32MB PCI????
2) If i prefere to stick with my old motherboard would a new CPU (preferably AMD 700-900MHZ) fit on to it???
Small Enquires
1) Whats makes an AGP slot better than a PCI for Graphics Accelerators???
2)How do i find out the name of my Motherboard!!! ( i will post it if i find out and it might help answer Question 2)

Yes, it would be better to buy a new mobo and cpu. The AMD K6-2 series of CPUs have quite a few compatability issues, Which a new CPU will fix. A new graphics card will also be of benifit. Any of the Ge-Force 2 cards are very good.

Unlikly, but best to check.

AGP uses different architecture and can transfere infomation faster than PCI. The AGP bus is also wider so it can send more infomation at once.

Phisically look on the motherboard, Check any disk that might have came with the motherboard. Or look to see if you have a manual for the motherboard.
Hope this makes things a bit clearer. HalT.
