No matter what medium you use, there are always drawbacks. It is just a matter of preference, and the technologie that is available at the time.
Also, if you are worried about your disks getting scratched, then you can buy a special backing, which protects the uder side of the CD /DVD.

I agree, it's better to pay more for a game that you'll enjoy, than to spend less on cheap games that won't satisfy you. It's a false economy to buy cheap games!
