So is this game fit for sailing on the waters of gaming excellence? Well, frankly no. This game has far too many faults that prevent this game from being loved or liked from those who parted their hard-earned cash into a game that is sinking faster then the Titanic.
What should could have been a storming idea by Stormfront studios of arcade shooting in gunboats quickly turns into a game of frustration and annoyance, first, the controls are unresponsive, sluggish and difficult when an arcade shooting game should be easy, simple, and responsive. The frustration just increases with the design of the rest of the game, proving to have little thought put into making sure things worked. The 20 missions may be varied with plenty of rough, exciting, if crude action, but its evident that they haven’t done enough proper game testing to address severe issues with the game. Already, its difficult and frustrating just to move around and shoot, but to play through what seems like level after level of unavoidable ambush attacks, impossible odds and delicate manoeuvres that the limited variety of improperly armed playable boats aren’t suited for, makes this seem unbearable.
The other game features don’t do any favours for this game from getting worse, the non customiseable boat’s weapons prove ineffective and difficult to use. Add in the inconsistent AI, that is sometimes reliable, self-sufficient, whiles other times stupid like enemies and allied boats alike heading straight into your boat with complete disregard of their own or others safety ensures that the game won’t stop it being condemned as being bad. Terrible voice acting, music and story separate the time being annoyed and frustrated with boredom instead.
Surely there must be other features or things that are items of interest and save it from sinking like a stone in the sea? Thankfully there are some redeeming features such as the stunning graphics that looked like it showed a good game. Explosions, water, landscapes, buildings and minor touches like bullet casing bouncing off boats do well to disguise the downfalls of the game. Those who keep to it will be rewarded greatly in Lastablity, as this game offers a lot of things to unlock for multiplayer. Which, is marginally better then the story mode and allow your mates to enjoy a death match battle or domination. But if we were being realistic, this game doesn’t stand a chance against Halo’s or UT2003’s multiplayer.
But overall all of the good things don’t prevent the bad sides of the game sinking it to the bottom of a bargain bin and beyond. Sure, Its price and Lastablity for those who enjoy it will find some fans, but if you’re not open minded, patient and determined, this is one is not for you.
Arcadey blasting multiplayer but that's about it.
I swapped my copy of Quantum Redshift for it because I'd finished all but the top level of QR and I wanted some multiplayer blasting instead.
Avoid if you're a solitary gamer, rent if you're not.
