But all this aside games are actualy good for you. The gaming industry has grown alot and is contiuing to grow by a huge rate. Since the first game Spacewar was designed in 1961, then with the likes of pong, space invaders and asteroids in the 70's gaming has become a large global market. It is now worth around $32 million a year and that figure is estimated to double in 5 years which is quite unbelievable.
Many children (even adults) are now sitting in front of computers and consoles instead of being with friends and playing football and other sports but this can help them. With the way the future is going it is certain that computers will play a large part in most peoples life whether it is at home or work. Children who have computers and consoles learn much quicker on computers than those who don't. Computers help children learn quicker as they are more interested in them thesedays than they are in books and what their teacher has to say. Thats why they are used in schools.
Children these days are drawn to anything that has bright colours and is fast moving. This is why they love computer games so much. (There are so many reasons why older gamers love games, the main reason for them all is that they are fun) We enjoy them so we play them. Its that simple.
Playing games also gives you confidence with other computers. How many times have you seen an adult sitting and looking nervous and sometimes intimidated by a computer, this never seems to happen with children. With more and more people being connected to the web it also opens up a new world of learning for children, an easier more fun way. Ok so game can be a little harmful if you over do it. But they can help alot, some games build on skills that can be used in real-life situations, most if not all games improve your manual dexterity (hand eye co-ordination). So whatever way you look at it games are good for you, and with more and more people getting into gaming it looks like it is an industry that will grow and grow.

And there's no real evidence to suggest that this is slowing down, with the Gamecube on it's way and Videogames becoming more and more popular around the world, the Japanese culture, although quite strict and somewhat reserved, could spread out into the Nations... hopefully and the communism and all that crap won't follow, BUT if it's all about videogames then Japan can bring us as much as they want.
I don't know if you've noticed, but in Japan there are loads of cool arcade ideas that don't seem to get over here... well that's all changing. Not in a massive way, but machine by machine and devloperby developer we're seeing much more of the attractions that's made Japan what it is today.
Pokémon came here at light-speed, and already other things are following. We have dance-machines, boxing machines, skiing and skateboarding machines...
To say Japan is taking over is stupid, because only their popular video games stuff is making its way half way around to world to our British shores.
Most children in Japan have been bred with video games playing some part in their childhood. Every time you switch onto Gamespot TV or Game Over, there's some sort of Tour of Japan on with neon light flashing past the screen only to take focus on Mario, PS2 or another big name...
You see, the populatiry of certain franchises changes in different areas of the world...because we're the last to get anything, the latest gizmo or gadget to arrive is swooped up by all the top innovators... the PS2 is a prime example... when most people had their PS2 in the UK already the Japanese were complaining about the lack of games and were trying to sell their console...
Japan is so far ahead in videogame terms it's untrue... but although technology is their strong point they don't have a Queen, they don't have 'Sussex By The Sea!' or tall red guards sporting fluffy black hats!
England is England and it's something to be proud of... but some more of that fancy lighting stuff would be quite fun... If any of you see Chung Ping Wang or Chi Lung Fat, tell them to chuck some of their neon-clad fancy machines this way!

I suppose that it's true that less children read now, as they play games instead.
If this is indeed the case, then these children may have a weaker vocabulary. Unless they playing lots of text heavy gmes....
But hey, I reckon playing games is certainly better for kids than watching kids TV.
As to whether games cause violence in children?
Yes, it probably does to low levels.
You know, they see Ken to a dragon punch, and act it out, accidently catching their friends and stuff. I mean, kids aren't stupid enough to try to do a real 'dragon punch' on someone, they know it will hurt. But they might cause accidental damage in goofing around, just as you might from climbing a tree, or playing cowboys and Indians.
Playing games isn't going to turn you into a psycho killer or anything.
Does games cause children to become violent? A serious matter. I believe that some games like fighting beat-em ups and games that use violence as part of the game can cause some children to copy the actions they see on screen. But surely this is why games have a certificate if the contain things not to be seen by young children. If these games are to harm children its not the developers fault but the parents fault for allowing their child to play such games.
