It seems there are more and more games being released that make use of all the buttons on a controller and some that require alot of the keys on a PC keyboard. What happened to the simple games.
This makes it hard for beginers to take up games, Red Faction on the PS2 makes use of all the buttons, trying to learn that is even hard at first for adults. Imagine if you where younger. So what has happened to these types of games. Space invaders was one of the first games out and is still quite popular as it is addictive and very fun to play. Bomberman is similar and the replay values of these games is very good.
I would like to see games like these re-released as part of game packs (like 4 in 1games).
Don't get me wrong I love games like red faction, deus ex and the other good ones. The fact they use more buttons makes them more playable as you can do so many more different things. I know these other games are classics but surely that dosn't mean they should be forgot about. I seen a preview of frogger, its been done up and re-released soon but I think the original would be better maybe touched up graphicaly with a few extras added but nothing to big to spoil a classic.
Is it just the way the future of gaming is going? Will we never see games like these again as they have evolved into more "complex" games.
I've got a Saitek Joystick. It's got 14 buttons and levers on it, an instruction manual 20 pages long.
I've never used it.
Uses the analogue stick and 2 buttons.
I prefer a game with fewer controls, as I find them easier to get into and remember. It makes the game much easier toplay if you don't have to stop every 5 seconds to check how to do something.
Simple controls are fine with me!
A game that requires no buttons, merely pointing a monkey (a super monkey no less), in a ball, at bananas.
I can't wait to play it.
Mind you, the technology and the power is there to make complex, highly involving games, so why ignore it?
Barbie Race and Ride
Any other game by Mattel
Silent Scope
Any racer
etc...
Although I DO actually agree, many of today's games tend to use not just all the buttons on a controller but combinations of them as well.
This could easily be allieved by introducing a more complex onscreen menu system for a lot of commands, but then that would distract from gameplay (although it didn't in Final Fantasy but then that's an RPG, they're kind of a special case anyway).
But then maybe onscreen menus would get more, erm, complex.
