one was a picture of the box art of the new PS2 and Xbox game, simpsons road rage, and another was a review for the simpsons dvd set.here is that review...

We have been very fortunate to have a look at the first two disks of the "The Simpsons" set. Now of course these disks feature mostly episodes from the series along with commentaries. The third disk features most of the extras and we hope to get to that later. In terms of quality we can confirm that the picture quality on these disks is first rate. The picture is much better than broadcast quality with bright colours, sharp edges and no sign of smearing due to the encoding of the quick moving images. There is a slight colour bleed which is perhaps down to the animation process. The episodes are of course presented in their original 4:3 ratio and all feature DD 5.1 soundtrack. Sadly at this point I can't comment on the quality of the sound, our office is only equipped with stereo speakers ! However the mix does sound very clean indeed with clean dialog and rich music. I'm looking forward to hearing this on a big system !

Each episode on the disks features a commentary track although Matt Groenig does not appear on each one. The commentary is buried under the language option which is perhaps a little strange, other studios normally put these under the extra features. Fox instead have chosen to point the extras features menu for each episode to the disks global extras.

Of course on a quick look like this I can't listen to all the commentaries but I can say that the bits I've dipped into are very good. Once you start to listen to these commentaries you'll find out how much work really goes into producing the show. There's lots of funny memoirs, insights in to the making of the shows and more behind the scenes insights than even the biggest fan could handle. You'll hear about how the characters got their names and how the look of the has changed over the years. Matt and all the participants point out inside jokes whenever possible and there are plenty of remarks that make you go "Ohhh, so that's where that came from !". It's plain that all the people involved are enjoying themselves immensely, this is no chore they are forced to do.

Both disk feature a couple more extras as well, Disk 1 features two scripts and a third resides on disk three. These are now plain text only pages but photographic reproductions of the actual scripts complete with annotations from the writers. This is an absolutely first rate presentation of the scripts, definitely the way this feature should be presented.

This has only been a taste of this set, there's so much more to come once we get a look at disk 3 where the meat of the extras are. However, I can't help feel that if these two disks are a indication of the standard of disk three we are in for a real treat.

Not really, US doesn't like releasing TV series as a rule. We get whole series of Friends whereas they get two "Best of" collections. We got Sopranos Series 2 before them, maybe series on too. Were getting the Simpsons box set days before them, well, not really as people with sense are buying the majorly cheaper R1 version ayway.

Its all to do with the distributors really. More and more they're releasing back catalogue titles at around the same time. As the masters have to be coppied less times for a UK release we occassionally get back catelogue titles a touch before the US.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Many thanks!!
Registered my website with Freeola Sites on Tuesday. Now have full and comprehensive Google coverage for my site. Great stuff!!
