As Machie's QOTD appeared popular, my QoTD (well weekend, as it's a Saturday night...) will be:

Do you think we are becoming too dependant on the Internet?

I may be one of many that have an Internet addiction. I even changed my mobile contract to be able to access e-mails and check my facebook pages.

If I ever need to transfer money, it is now done online and I can barely remember the last time I used a tangeable dictionary to find a meaning of a word. Wikipedia and GoogleBooks are my new bookshelf :/

I get infuriated by the time snailmail takes to arrive - it's only got 200 miles to go and my e-mail to the other side of the world gets there 5 days before my letter makes that short distance.

So what are your opinions on the Internet. Could you last a day/week/month/year without it or could you even give it up for life if needs be?

Personally i think the Internet is something sinister, but depending on how well this thread pans out will determine whether or not I explain why it is sinister.

It will be. Especially as I can't seem to find anyone to drag me away - although if I did, this time around I won't let her convince me the world was against me and I have serious mental health issues :/ Could have done with the forums support to help me break from her spell - hindsight is wonderful isn't it :p

Yes, you cast us aside like yesterdays jam. (Where did I steal this quote?). I hope next time will be different now that you have some responsibility. :)

I just spent the past few days without any internet. All I've been doing is reading Atlas Shrugged, and spending time socialising. I can live without facebook, and downloaded films and videogames. I have a girlfriend, friends, books, and studies to occupy my time. The internet just provides lazier forms of entertainment.

I'm the opposite of Machie(!) - I hardly use the internet anymore, I can access everything on my TV now :¬P

To me, the Internet is just another thing that takes up time. Sure, it has its uses and is good at saving time etc but if it was taken away, you would just adapt and put the time somewhere else.

As far as I'm aware, the Internet and TV are not vital to our survival. :) They are there to waste time or make our finding of information easier.

I suppose I spend quite a lot of time on the internet in my own time. But then again, I stream almost all my TV, music and football online.

I maybe spend an hour or so in the evenings browsing, but this can stretch to 2 or 3 hours on some occasions. I don't go online at weekends what-so-ever until Sunday evening if I get home at a reasonable time from whatever shenanigans I've been getting up to that weekend!

I'm sure their are the majority of people on this forums who easily do 50 hours on tinterwebs though....

That's 7.1 hours a day. Ish.

But all that time just browsing? 0_o
