OK, so lets just imagine that i know diddly squat (not hard)
i have freeola broadband, and am currently getting REEEELY slow connection.
been told to use the standard bt speedtester but it ALWAYS comes up as an ERROR. ...ALWAYS.
switched off firewall (even uninstaled at one time) plugged into master socket, everything i could think of but to no avail.
any advice.?
nothing too tecnical please, as i said imaging i'm your granny :)
thanks in advance

After checking your account notes I can see that you have been provided with a list of checks to help the diagnosis with your line after telling us that you were unable to perform the necessary speed check. I imagine you are in the process of performing these checks as you have not replied since yesterday.
Please bear in mind that BT run that speed checker and request (in most cases require) that it be performed and results gathered before they will agree to investigate any line issue regarding speed. This is why we have suggested that it is quite important.
Hopefully Hmmm...'s thread about ADSL you read and replied to should have provided you with a bit more information about how the ADSL system works, which can only help improve the speeds you receive.
(It might be worth a staff mod starting a new thread with your post?)
BT's speedtester can be troublesome! - if you've got access to another PC try running the test there.
Often it's the Java installation that needs looking at. Do you let the Java updates go through when asked?
Forgetting BT speedtester for now - you need to find your line's statistics - Attenuation, Sync, SNRM. This will give us some idea of the health of your line.
Have you got a router or modem as you'll need to login to it to find these?
