I am of course used to it, Only Fools and horses, Dr Who and One foot in the grave to name but a few. It is always sad to say good bye to a TV show mainly because you get to know the characters and the thought that we won’t be seeing them again is a sad thought. So what about games?
Saying goodbye to individual games (a.k.a Zelda or in Playstation’s case Final Fantasy) is always sad as you get to know these characters even more as you speak and even play as them. But there is a sequel right, we may wait a few years but we get to go back to our friends in this make believe world.
But what happens when a game series stops?
What will happen when Mario stops jumping down pipes or Sonic no longer smashes round levels at high speeds? One day these franchises may stop selling and these games may slowly disappear. Will we be forced to say goodbye to Princess Zelda for the last time?
It’s a sad thought but one which we may have to face in the future.

Oh, and Dr Who isn't finished...
Yeah 2003 Dr who returns at 40th anniversary.
I do see your point their Dringo; Victor Meldrew in One foot in the grave was bleeding excellent I thought. It would be a shame to see the Mario series or Final Fantasy series go down the drain because that what make people remember the console.
Mario is a great legend, and however how many people say he is babyish or he Nintendo should get a new mascot he has changed gaming history. The same with Playstation, the Final Fantasy series will be remembered for decades.
Seeing characters go is a shame but some times we have to move on.
Crash Bandicoot is one example. How many sequels has he had? Let me count, 1,2,3,4,5,10,50,100 ok maybe I need to find my pills again ;). But still he has had many games staring him in it. 10?
Sony has had many great characters, Solid Snake, Crash, FF people and so on and you want to know why? I will tell you, it’s all down to them being able to make large games at good prices with reasonable graphics in very little time. That was the N64 big downfall. It takes too long to make games on cartridges. In the time it takes to make a decent game for N64 10 Playstation games have come out.
Nintendo had to focus all its games on one main character, Mario. He was a great mascot and he was hit or miss on n64. For many ninty fans he was a hit but for other console fans he was a childish person who wasn’t worth the time to argue about. That’s why there are so many games about Mario, they couldn’t have a lot of main characters like Sony because of the time problem. With the N64 growing ever-nearer death they was hardly any point. It could have just been a big flop or maybe a huge success, who knows?
Nintendo have stuck to their guns with N64 and not I would have said been adventurous enough.
Now Nintendo on disks however it is a different story. Nintendo can now cope with making good quality games at decent prices and fast, I hope they will be more adventurous and have more main characters than n64 did. Or maybe a few others than the Mario “clan”.
I’m sure Shiggsy will think of something.
Cheers for reading.

lets hope enterprise lives up to the star trek reputation
I guess it's because I don't play too many RPGs, but I do know what you mean, coming to the end of a game can be a joyful and sad occasion at the same time.
