Hmmmmm… XBox forum sort of dying a death, been a bit quiet round here lately. Well, how to kick some life into these parts? Talk about the games or something; they’re supposedly what matters but strangely absent from most Xbox discussions.

Jet Set Radio Future

The original was great, but didn’t reach the mass market due to the Dreamcast’s lacklustre uptake. Bill Gates’ dreams of console domination may be premature, but will undoubtedly be aided by this title. Also, this franchise will be aided the by X-Box. Why? Well with more grunt running behind it, bigger, more realistic environments will be possible. If you’ve passed an eye over the screen shots from E3 then you’ll see the improvement. Cities stretching off into the distance filled with intricate and interactive scenery. Imagine Tony Hawk but the arena size is increased until it is a living breathing city. The traffic is also now more responsive to your actions and won’t simply mow you over blindly. The repertoire of tricks has grown too and with a new story behind it this looks like the pick of the X-Box release bunch.

Why is it on the X-Box rather than the GameCube or PS2? Well, the original Jet Set Radio didn’t go down well at all in Japan and the X-Box isn’t suspected to either. Added to the “hip” attitude J Allard is keen to pump into the Xbox and these two are ideal bedfellows.

Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee

Remember the PS2 owners drooling over this game months ago? Then it became an Xbox exclusive and suddenly PS2 owners were throwing their rattles out of their prams en mass saying they didn’t want it anyway. Yeah right! The originals in the series were a touch above average at best, but this looks really special. Again, like Jet Set Radio Future the graphics are amazing, but that is to be expected. It looks like a rare tactile, almost puzzle style game among the Xbox’s launch line up. Maybe this is why Microsoft were so keen to get hold of the title exclusively in the first place.

Project Gotham Racing

Have you seen this game? Woah! It just looks gorgeous, even better than MSR. This is Bizarre Creations follow up to the aforementioned MSR, and like Sega with JSR they hope to reach a wider market and reap larger returns for their effort. Taking MSR as their starting point they’ve improved on the formula. Remember the way you could unlock the last level well before you reached it? Remember the easy Kudos points earned through power sliding more than one could sensibly recommend? The way you could only have three cars at once – that was a bit annoying too. Well these problems and the other niggling glitches have all been ironed out. Even another city has been added, now you can race in New York, London, Tokyo and San Francisco. New models of cars are now there to be earned – Ferraris and Porsches – yum yum!

This is also pretty much the first title to ever get the commercial car manufacturer’s permission to smash up their babies. Body damage may affect your race, with the improved physics in the game’s engine aiding realism. Anyway, who cares about that? This is the game MSR should have been. Who wouldn’t want that?

Halo

How long have we been waiting for this title? Bungie have certainly been taking their time to polish this one to perfection. It was very well received at E3, with the newly announced squads going down a treat. You’ve got up to 15 computer-controlled squaddies assisting you in your mission. While these will usually just run alongside you picking up the stray enemies, you can hand over the gun turrets to them while you drive a vehicle, for instance.

Load times have been thrown out the window and the game plays like on continuous level – no let up in the action! A four-player split screen mode has been thrown in, and if that is executed well it could be the highlight of the game. Add a supposedly fabulous arsenal and the jaw dropping graphics and you’ve got one great game to look forward too. Who cares if it’ll be on the PC too – I can pick up an Xbox for the same price as a GeForce3 card!

Asheron’s Call 2

Not much is know about this game other than it is in development and will see an Xbox port. The original was great, but definitely had huge areas where it could be improved. The character classes were a little limited and there were really only three different classes of cities and a very narrow range of nasties to fight. Hopefully all these problems will be sorted out and it looks like it will be the first genuine MMORPG on a console. Will Turbine chicken out and include an offline play mode? I hope not. I’d love to see what an online gaming world populated by console gamers and PC gamers looked like! Take my word for it, this title could be HUGE.

Dead or Alive 3

How to include a “bounce” joke yet keep it tasteful… no chance, better quit while I’m ahead…

Well, there are at least four games there that I’m dying to play. No way I could say that about the PS2 nearly a year into its life, and the GameCube is a strange one. I’ve always been a huge Nintendo fan and own all their consoles, but there is something uninspiring about the launch line up as it stands. The announced Xbox titles still have a lot too prove, awwww who knows? This is why there are professionals to write this sort of stuff…

Any I’ve missed in my amateur incompetence? What Xbox stuff are you looking forward too? Why are people showing so little interest in titles that obviously have potential? Why not have another question, just to make it an even number? Why do I even want an even number of questions? What’s the point in this overly long non-conclusion?

I cannot yet find any proper imformation on the web about CT Next.

I read an interview with the main guy at Hitmaker in Edge magazine about 6 months ago, and he was talking about Crazy Taxi Next.

Now my memory is dodgy at the best of times, but this is what I think I can remember:

(I am certain I read the following):
1. Day and night modes with obviously different customers for day and night.
2. Rival cabbies who attempt to steal your customers.
3. More realistic (gritty) graphics
4. Release date early 2002. It should be an xBox launch title.

(My speculations):
1. Online play. If there's rival cabbies jetting around the city at the same time as you then the obviously step would be to make it online.
2. Las Vegas. I'm just guessing. But it's the obvious choice seeing there will be a night mode. The neon night lights of Vegas would look awesome.

Is that real? Hope so, loved the two DC games. Maybe they could use the same huge cities from JSR: Future, or have it included as a bonus cities or something.

Know of any sites with screen shots or more info?
