How many of you have seen the Everything or Nothing adverts? One of them indicates a multi-platform release... whilst the other just features the Gamecube logo.
Why? Well we all presumed it was the new friendly approach from EA... that is partly true. But no, it's real reason is because those adverts are actually Nintendo ones. They are the same adverts as EA but Nintendo front the money this time... it is so third party sales of various products are increased... thusly third parties wish to continue working with Nintendo.
In Europe it is just EA but in America titles from other publishers including SEGA are advertised... Nintendo also helped the advertising of the Resident Evil franchise. Nintendo have also done something we are not to like so much... they've reduced first party out put.
We all worried about what will happen to Nintendo's schedule of games when the DS is released... 3 systems? Would it slip? No... it has already slipped. Metroid Prime 2, Zelda WW 2... MArio 128... what has happened to these AAA Nintendo titles... granted one may appear this year but a total of 3 AAA Nintendo branded titles appeared last year.
Nintendo this year are relying on third partys... Nintendo's big games are all duenext year. Games such as Mario Tennis, Pokemon etc... small easy to make games make up Nintendo's release schedule. Pikmin is the only confirmed big Nintendo title to go worldwide this year. Why haven't we moaned? Because Monkey Ball 3 (a franchise that has built a following on the Gamecube), Killer 7, Resident Evil 4 (probably), Geist, Starfox 2, Tales of Symphonia, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy etc... are all due this year instead.
What does this mean to me and you? It means we all get first rate products this year BUT not from Nintendo (bar Pikmin 2 and perhaps a big Christmas release). You see Nintendo are the reason why we buy a Nintendo system... it is really that simple, it is why third party titles suffer on the Gamecube, we buy a Gamecube for Nintendo games, Capcom, Namco, EA etc... are all after thoughts. This year we are almost forced to buy third party software, good third party software mind... and this will increase the normally crap third party sales, in other words sales for third party games increase... third parties stay on board.
This isn't me thinking too hard mind it is research done by IGN and it is a pretty smart idea. I just hope it is enough to get Midway, Eidios, Acclaim etc... back in time.
Dringo.
but you could look a the other releases for other consoles.. they are alright might be a few unknown gems i don't know about which could happen this year but Half life 2 and Doom 3 i can buy for 30 quid for my PC..
All i mean is that there isn't many MAJOR Nintendo releases this year... Donkey Konga, Four Swords and Wario Ware are hardly major. It means third party sales can increase, and therefore third parties sell better on the Gamecube and the third parties could come back.
Regardless where they come from, they're all great and they're all exclusive. Nintendo do have more on their hands this year with the DS and the GC peripheral, but they're making sure their machine is keeping up with quality games.
And next year we have Monkey Ball 3, Killer 7, Resi 4, GEIST, Starfox, Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Mario 128 (maybe) plus all those new DS games. I see no problem with Nintendo's output and the exclusive output from 3rd parties.
MP2 and Pikmin 2 maybe... but this will be it.
Look last year the big March game was MEtroid Prime, this year it will be Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid... third party titles.
Big Christmas game in America and Japan? Resident Evil 4.
See a pattern?

You've got to remember the N64 only got one major Mario game, as I reckon the Cube will end up seeing. Zelda WW will be unveiled at E3, I reckon the gap between Wind Waker and it's sequel will be about the same as OOT and MM. As for Metroid 2? It's out this year in Europe (supposedly), but this and the original Prime are two AAA titles the N64 hadn't got. Think of them as the Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. So I reckon we're doing alright and the level of AAA output is much the same.
