The games industry has not really progressed (woo controversial), the way i see it the games industry is just following a set piece, almost like a corner kick. The angle and look of the ball as it is kicked numerous times is different, but in the end it is al the same.
Without using an analogy im saying this, each company is merely following a routine, first comes the design of a new console, usually following the sort of style that is fashionable during that period, this way the console willl appeal to a wider group.
Next comes the production stage, its make or break now, the console goes on sale, public interest is high, consoles fly off of the shelves.
A few years have passed since the new consoles maiden voyage, sales figures have slumped a little, public interest is now minimal. The console is soon to pass onto another life.
The previous console has now run dry from the production line, retro fans shed a final tear. The company now must think up a new console, they must of course follow the rule that states that the next console must be twice as powerfull as the last, and they get to work.
And so the cycle continues, never really breaking new ground away from this inherent schedule. Although every now and again an add on may do the rounds in order to boost a consoles longevitty, but this usually seals its fate.

thats quite funny having to hide outside....did she ever find out or sense anything strange lol??
my parents dont care what time i sleep....i tell them the truth most of the time as to what time i sleep....they know even if i don't tell em..
Yes, the games industry is following a cirlce but it's hardly surprising, is it? New technology comes out all the time, what would happen if Sony/Nintendo refused to make new consoles? They'd go out of business.
Anyway, I don't agree that sales figures slump. The PSone was going very strongly until they announced the PS2. The sales figures only slumped then because people were saving up for a PS2 and they didn't want to waste money on their obselete PSone. The same will happen with the N64.
cos if you are aren't you gonna get some sleep??
