The Nintendo DS handheld is the most mysterious of creatures. We know it'll feature two separate LCD screens, that's it's big gimmick. We also know it's likely to use a Li-on rechargeable battery, and will probably be housed in a flip-top case, rather like the old Nintendo Game & Watch pocket games. But apart from these few details, it remains a mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a riddle. Well, perhaps murmerings coming from supposed Nintendo insiders might point to some additional information. Quite literally.
Stories have sprouted up on the web this morning claiming that at least one screen on the Nintendo DS will feature touchscreen functionality, meaning that users can push their pudgy fingers on the screen itself rather than a conventional button. Official Nintendo sources floundered when confronted with the rumours, but gave an expected non-commital response. If this particular rumour turns out to be true, this will be another massive gamble on behalf of Nintendo - surely a touchscreen will bump up production costs quite considerably?
