Why doesn't a 60mph wind, or an object being blown down the road at that speed, set off the flashing 30mph speed limit sign at the end of my road?

object size.
if it`s big enough to register then it WILL set the sign off. there was an amusing story about a squirrel setting off a sped camera after being hit by a car a few years ago.

wind won`t do anything because it has no visible element. same reason you never see a photofit of oxygen on crimewatch, despite all its sins :D

I think only metal objects will set it off ie vehicles.

At work when you drive out we have gates that open when you put the front of your car over a white line which shows where the sensor is and it's only triggered by metal, therefore if you were to walk over it it wouldn't open the gates (unless you were wearing a suit of armour) :D
