is there any way to connect my gamecube to my nice new 17" pc tft monitor? im a uni student and want to keep some space for the beer imstead of my tv, i can go to my mates and watch it.

either you computer must have a video in socket on your graphics card (so thinks like the ati all in wonder series or nvidia geforce cinema series will provide that)...connections possible: composite and s video
Use a vga box...though you have to be careful which one you get because some of them only use AV composite so the quality when it comes out on the monitor is really bad. There are some vga boxes that can give the best graphical output available (made by redant i think)...though i don't think the one they've made for the gamecube is compatible with PAL consoles (i'd know because i got one...though the ps2 and xbox ones work a treat). another thing...vga boxes will NOT work on TFT monitors properly.
