I read a post from YH today about how he's used these forums as a steady when everything else around him has been uncertain, he could rely on these forums to provide some sense of normality and comfort.

What about you?
Why do you post here?

I know that some people solely post in at attempt to win gameaday, and fair play to them. But there are those of us that are skulking around day after day, we are cyber-squatters in SRs shiny house.
We moved in, took up residence and proceed to tell SR what to do, how to run things and what to do with their business directions.
Ok, so they haven't called in the bailiffs to kick us out and poke at our dogs on bits of string, but you get the point I'm trying to make.

What do you consider these forums to be?
For myself, I came here shortly before christmas last year as a way to pass time at work and to make idiotic comments about why the PS2 was rubbish as a domestic appliance...and pretty much carried on from there.

But now I find myself logging on when I'm at home to post stuff, it's become more than just a timekiller.
I've seen this place go from strangers telling each other why one console is crap and they wasted their money, to a place with regulars, newbies, notables and JATs telling each other why one console is crap and they wasted their money.

But more than that it's brought me to some people that I would never have met otherwise. People that I consider friends (not that I want to take showers with you and walk in the rain mind...), some of you have moved in on my MSN and some of you have been forced to listen to my music and stuff.
I enjoy this place, it's one of the more friendly and enjoyable forums.
I do visit a couple of others each day, but they are serious, hardcore political and social discussion pages - not something I can dip in and out of (one discussion elsewhere has been going for 3 months about the benefits of Gnoticism vs creationism..not the lightest of topics).

Do you consider yourself to have a role here?
Some people have taken on a part of sorts.
Dan writes massively long posts of many many words, Grix dredges his soul for esoteric posts, Wookie is the sage and dispenser of soothing advice etc..everyone here has an alloted place.

Me? I am the village idiot. If anyone is going to toss out a pun or joke about bodily functions, chances are it's me.
But not always, I do post the occasional serious topic and light a match to things before waiting for the explosion, then wade in and add gasoline to the fire.
There are people here that have locked horns with me and we have fallen to the floor, tugging at each other's hair as we trade laughably weak body shots.
But that's part of who I am, I thrive on approaching a topic and saying "Wait a minute though..." and setting off what often turns into a furious (but ultimately good natured) argument. Those of you that had the misfortune to visit my website (not the band one, my other one) a couple of months ago will be aware of the way my mind works when not being the forum comedy stroker.

That's what a forum is to me, a place to joke around but sometimes, just sometimes get heated and argue. Swapping of ideas and viewpoints, it's a healthy thing otherwise we'd all like the same things, think the same way and listen to the same things..which is never ever a good thing.

Depends on what forum you stumble into though.
Lately, the Life, Sport and Football area has been discussing serious stuff, everyone has thrown their hat into the ring and argued their beliefs.
We have seen people talk about bullying, religion, the afterlife, nuclear warfare - all manner of things.
I don't bother going into nintendo, web design or technical forums because I don't really know enough about those things to post with any authority, but should you wander over to the music and movies place, you'll find me there.
Usually red faced and standing with hands on hips shaking my head and moaning about Tomb Raider or Big Brother.

Which areas do you find the most appealing?
Why?

Are there people's posts that you read as a matter of point, you like how that person speaks and enjoy their views?

I think the one thing that sets this forum apart from a lot of others are the interaction between staff and customers.
I have never seen a place where the owner of the company regularly posts, and it still amazes me that people are so familiar with Tony (how many "Tony, read this!" posts have there been?), yet he always replies with humour and good grace. Strange though, when I worked there one christmas many, many moons ago, he was a shadowy and feared figure. You heard his padding footsteps and buried your face in work, glancing nervously over as he hoved into view armed with a cattle prod and a carpet to roll you in for a quick stair tumble.

What's the point of this post? No idea, sorry it's so long folks, my usual efforts are short and inane.
I apologise for this outburst of sincerity and promise to return to wearing my white sweatbands and tossing my mullet in the wind as soon as possible.

I agree with the Goat completely.

There's not much else I can say, as it's already been said.

I post here because my views on gaming are very important, wise and should be taken in by all.

because it's my home page, and I've no idea how to change it to another one.

because I'm a compulsive typist and I like seeing my name in print, this is an easy way to do it.

because lots of like minded people with similar views on things we all enjoy meet here and discuss those views, right or wrong, enabling me to help them develop their opinions about what is right and wrong in the world of gaming.

because occaisionally, I win a film or a game, which is rather nice.

because all my best buddies online are here.

because I'm working from home and I can get away with it.

because Special Reserve is one of the most informative gaming sites there is, if you want an opinion on a game you are thinking of getting or a console you are thinking of switching to, I challenge ANYONE to name a better site on the world wide web.

because....I wub you all!!!!!!

I see us more as a giant family. Always looking out for eachother... settling differences fast.

I post here because I'm part of that family, as do many people. I can't just walk away from it.

I am Grix Thraves. That's all.
