Braben seems to have set himself VERY AMBITIOUS goals for Elite IV and therefore the game will take 'some time' to develop. Whilst we are all very keen to seen Elite IV as soon as possible, we hope that David will take time to ensure that the game meets the high expectations of the Elite community, before making it available.
The original Elite (1984) was ground-braking for its time, and we hope David Braben the best of luck in repeating the Elite phenomenon with Elite IV. Although David is reluctant to give away too many details here are a few of the features that the game is believed to have.
Multi-player support with a 'dynamic' on-line galaxy.
Better combat, less realistic but more fun, like in original Elite.
Better graphics.
Deeper more complex missions.
In depth non-linear storyline. lots of political intrigue. etc.
Ships that have different flight characteristics, controls, cockpit, capabilities etc.
The ability to own more than one ship at a time (one for combat on for trade etc).
Vastly improved AI for CG ships.
Although undecided, Braben has hinted as these formats:
Windows PC, Linux PC, Macintosh, Sony Playstation 2, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo Gamecube.
Have to wait until next year at the earliest though.
This sounds very cool indeed, I can't wait to get my hands on this.
