Hot summer days, hot summer nights, oh woe is the gamer who has to deal with these kind of temperatures that good old Blighty is suffering at the moment.

However, relief is at hand. (No, that's not a suggestion).

Thinks to keep you cool whilst gaming:

Take two scoops of Vanilla Icecream and put them in a tall glass, then slowly pour in some Diet Coke (or regular, depending on taste), and stir till well mixed. Then drink. Works everytime to reduce your blood temperature.

Open that window that you've been meaning to open all summer and 'air your room' as the phrase goes. Fresh air circulating actually acts as a coolant. (Americans have air conditioners to do this for them, lucky people.)

Get a fan, and place it so that it blows a current of air across your body as you play, see above.

Don't play games that require tremendous amounts of jumping and larking about, in this weather, you just can't take it, so stay clear of Samba de Amigo, Diddy Kong Racing and Sega Bass Fishing on turbo mode.

If you can summon up the energy and have a back garden, move your 32" Nicam widescreen and associated gaming equipment out to the lawn/patio and play there. (Extension cable and mosquito net recommended, especially if you are playing in your garden at night).

Try to avoid games with desert locations, like Diablo II, Desert Strike, Skies of Arcadia etc., these do no good, if you have SSX Pro Boarding or similar wintry type games, play them. Dig out that old copy of Ecco the Dolphin and play the ice stages.

Finally, crucial to remaining cool as a gamer, always wear a pair of Rayban Polarised Sunglasses when gaming.
