Imagine my joy today as I walked into the local gaming shop and after browsing the PS2 shelves and considering picking up a copy of GT3 for £31.99, I glance over toward the "retro" shelves and see a rather shabby looking yet all too familiar box that houses "Secret of Mana".
I dashed over toward it, knocking small children out of the way with one hand and reaching for my wallet with the other, only to find that, though it is a fully workign PAL version with box and instructions, the shop somehow thought they were well within their rights to charge a whopping £27.99 for it!
IT'S A F*****G SNES GAME FOR CHR!ST'S SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!
Suddenly I find myself torn between the brand spanking new graphically superb latest PS2 title GT3 and a tattily boxed secondhand SNES game from years ago.
How did this happen? Are modern games just not as good? Oh yes they may look very nice and play just as well as any other game, but how can an old graphically inferior, reasonably dated title offer such stiff competition for one of todays top games?
GT3 on special offer came out almost neck and neck with a harshly extortionate second hand simple 16-bit RPG.
Sickened by the fact that the gaming world had put me in this position, I took a stand and walked away with neither game!
Next generation developers need to get their act together and stop putting me in a place were I have to make that sort of judgement call!
...And how can they charge £27.99 for "Secret of Mana"???
:-(
*Sob sob sob*
Personally, in 10 years time, I'd sell my wife for a mint condition Final Fantasy VII.
(If I'd hadn't already sold her last week for a mint condition ZX81, that is...)
Shop assistans do it all the time. You know the tall spotty ones.
