Everywhere you look these days you see products combined to make even better products.
Mobile phones are hugely popular worldwide, some of the more well known brands have games built in to the handsets. With the new "3G" phones that are being developed at the moment new extras such as full colour games are planned. This is possible due to the JAVA applications that the phone has built in. So what could we see in the future, well some phones allow you to listen to the radio but maybe we will see phones that also play mini-discs or use sony's memory stick to play mp3's.

But lets talk about what we should. Consoles and Games. The PS2 and X-Box both have built in DVD players. The gamecube dosn't although panisonic have planned their own version of the gamecube with a built in DVD player. Is this the way thing will go? Ever since the video/tv combination alot of products have been combined to offer multiple functions. So whats next. The PS2 has an addition which allows radio to be played through your PS2. But surely everyone already owns a radio anyway.

So what kind of additions to consoles could we see in the future, minidisc players?, amplifiers and speakers?, built is LCD's? There are loads more things that could be added but surely this changes consoles more into home entertainment systems. Don't get me wrong I like the option of being able to play DVD's through my PS2 but maybe it would be better to sell them without a DVD player and with a HDD or modem built in. There are alot of PS2 owners who have dedicated DVD players and they would rather have the HDD or modem with it.
So are consoles changing to much, they no longer just play games(except the gamecube, but will that help it sell more or be a bad move for nintendo?) Is this change for the better or would you rather just have a console that plays games and only games. I can't help think what better things could be added that makes the console play games better instead of adding components to allow extra functions that aren't used when playing games.

So what do you see being added to consoles in the future? Or will consoles go back to being consoles? That is what they are after-all.

Thanks for your time

I think combis in a way are a good idea, I have a TV/video combi in my room! Now like mine most of these have NTSC playback, allowing me to play videos from around the world and from UK, example: I got Stuart Little on video before it came out in the cinemas over here and a year before release on video in the UK!

ANd now they have DVD/TV combis too, and with new consoles allowing you to play music, games and DVD films it can save you a lot of money and space!
