I've read it at least 3 times.

Well, you have now.
My launch model PS2 still works perfectly, while my launch XBOX is on its 2nd hard drive, has recently started giving 'dirty disk' errors, and has scratched my NFS Underground disc. (I've lost count of how many times I've posted this!)
The sheets you wrap it in for storage, are they plastic? If so they could cause static build-up, which could cause all sorts of problems.
My tips have always been keep it as dust-free as possible, don't have it too close to the TV, and don't put it on the carpet in front of the TV when you're using it. All of these things can cause static build-up, which can (but not necessarily does) cause problems.

Yeah, but do you have to do all that? You're not manufacturing a computer chip, it's only a console. Anyway, again probably the laser. Get it fixed if under warranty, send to Sony

It's the one with quieter fan, and it's not dust because I put my ps2 in several protective sheets inside a well sealed drawer right after each time I finish playing and I got a disc read error one year after fixing it for the first time, while I've never heard of something similar happened to Gamecube or Xbox.
Either way, I don't think disc read errors are based on the model number; it's more likely dust has settled on the laser, or stuff like that.
