It does take time. I will say I was shocked with how quickly people started to get in tocuh with me.
Another tip is to build your site a facebook page and link it to Twitter. That way you can get people to become fans/followers of your site and it provides a way of updating them of any updates.
I use both and most of my traffic comes from the links through facebook.

It was the "hi" thing right? :p

So it was ok advice then? Amazing - if I would have been told 2 months ago that I would have written that I would have laughed. It's slowly getting picked up.
Freeola will not link share at this time unless specifically agreed to by our marketing team, so you will not be able to do so "on this site".
Best advice would be to read through HM's post.
Most sites are happy to do this, provided that you aren't competition (i.e. Currys and Comet wouldn't like to one another...). Also aim to approach smaller sites as 90% of the time they want links to them as well.
My site Ghosts...and More now has quite a few link backs to it. It was through approaching similar sites in the fashion described above.
Similarly, try and get yourself onto web directories. These generally are free to join and can mean people will find your site, amongst others when looking for specific topic.
Also, try submitting to search engines such as Google as they will more than likely get around to indexing your page.
Hope that helps.
(another crafty trick is if a forum you use lets you have a signature, you may be able to add a link to your signature. That way, every post you make on that forum will have a link to your site. Freeola don't allow signatures (luckily...otherwise the forum would look a bit messy here). Make sure you post meaningful posts on those sites, otherwise they'll be deleted as spam (i.e. post more than "hi").
Fingers crossed you can then get a whole host of links to your site.
