First I had to drag my lil' brother into a film called 'Cats and Dogs' which I thought was the worst film EVER!!!!!!!!! I'm warning anyone - don't see it!
Then I saw AI which was probably the longest and strangest film i've ever seen.
But then I dicovered that Final Fantasy was also being shown. I don't own a Playsation and have never played the FInal Fantasy Games and don't know anything about them but I thought it would be interesting to see what it was about.
It was called Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
Now I don't know about any of the characters in the games so my review is on the basis that I knew nothing before so try not to laugh at me!
The only thing I knew before the film was that it was completely computer generated. I wasn't expecting the graphics to be any good. But as soon as I saw the opening of the film, I thought it was a real life film. So my first reactions were that even if the film was rubbish, it would be interesting to see the amazingly life-like graphics.
The film starred Aki Ross (is she a main character in the games?) in the future when the world has been hit by a huge meteor which has unleashed loads of alien ghost creatures that suck the souls from humans.
By finding four 'spirits' dotted around the Earth, she and her friend Dr Sid and the Deep Eyes squad can eradicate the ghost aliens.
But people don't believe that these spirits can destroy the aliens so General Hein plans to send a beam that would destroy them and most of the Earth. Aki and her romance link Gray try to get all four spirits before the General uses the beam.
What makes it worse is that Aki is infected by an alien therefore is under alien influence and is terminal.
Even though there is plenty of action, romance, and comedy in the film, it does suffer the oh so frequent cringe making moments.
For example: Somebody falls of a cliff face - "Give me your hand!" they shout and they hang there and gradually get pulled up. "You saved my life!" (Cringe) Cue joyous music!
or Somebody dies or gets injured and the person continues to shout their name in order for them to wake up. And then they do (cringe). Cue joyous music!
Even though there are far too many of these moments, the fact that it looks sooo real does it justice.
It is basically in a nutshell another Sci-Fi Action Thriller!
Is this film based on a Final Fantasy Game?
Many parts of the film have a 'gaming' feel, like with huge monsters they have to fight (i.e in-game bosses).
So it is definatley a film worth seeing when it comes out, even if it is just for the computer animation.
