Ok, "johnny-x" has asked a question in some child dialect, but it did get me thinking about the whole thing.
I'm not talking about Hollywood "Oh, they're naked!" movies like Basic Instinct etc, I'm talking hardcore movies/mags/web sites.

Why? What is this fascination with sex and seeing other people do it?
It's the oldest and cheapest form of entertainment on the planet, we've been doing it since we swung through the trees and tried to catch the moon in a bucket.
It's a multi-millon dollar/pound industry and it's the one thing that people have in common, be you rich, poor, black, white...everyone all over this planet are indulging in sex.
And amongst these people, some others are filming it and selling it back to us.

I remember what it was like when I was a teenager, it's the single most driving part of a teenage boy's mindset as soon as he stops with the "Ewww..kissing girls.." phase.
(some would say a man's mindset, never mind what age)

And we have the porn industry to facilitate this desire.
EVERYONE has looked at it on the net, and if you say "not me!" you're either lying or Stephen Hawkins.
You can buy mags, rent vidoes, get it on the net..it's everywhere.
And some people get really, really uptight about it.

I don't, I couldn't care less what two (or more) consenting adults to with each other, and if they choose to film it?
Someone'll pay to watch.
But this country has a weird attitude to it.
Whether it harkens back to Victorian morals..I don't know.
I do know that I went to the States, and my mates took me into a porn store the 1st night I was there, jet-lagged and bleary eyed.
And what struck me was how cool everyone was with it.
Imagine a Blockbuster for sex.
It was exactly like that, couples walking round looking at toys, movies, potions and lotions. It was no big thing.

I looked at some of the videos on sale (for research purposes) and was pretty shocked at what you could get.
I won't go into detail because kids read this and I'll get banned in a second.
However..from what I saw, pretty much anything is legal.
And whatever you can think of, whichever fetish floats your boat, there's a movie for it.
Midgets? Yep, saw the cover for that one.
Not over here though, you can't get hardcore over the counter.
Why not? If someone is old enough, why can't they watch what they want to?
I have no real desire to watch porn movies, I've seen a couple and they had the desired effect, but I just thought "Why watch someone else?" and found it funny.

But that's just me I supposed, millions of people the world over get their rocks off looking at this stuff.
Personally? I don't care, let them do what they want.

Porn.
Good or bad?
Yes. And No.

Hardcore porn is available now (R18 classification). That's what the Guardian article was on about.

You mention hardcore pornography, which to my knowledge is normally not sold or available in the UK, so for many people their first encounter is normally via the pages of Razzle or some other low-spec softcore outlet. The same goes for video and DVD.
I have no problem with either, and as a mature adult do not find the subject degrading. But i do have a concern.

Nowadays it is becoming more common for people to use the internet to view porn which can be restricted, but as we all know (and i`m sure everyone`s tried typing in the word "sex" in a search engine before) some sites with really strong content can be accessed with little trouble if your persistant to find them. So my concern is the availability of such material and its audience as children can be very persistant when they want to be.

I`m sure responsible parents are always on the ball regarding this, and any under 18 will normally find buying a magazine or video impossible (hopefully) in this country, but who stands over them when they are surfing?

Of course its not just children - some adults should also be watched as well.

Just as the argument about video nasties linked with violence rages from time to time, so does the link about Porn and sexual crime. But who`s monitoring it? And why does it seem our authorities just take a dim view over this aspect or sweep it under the carpet even given many recent high profile events like the murder of Sarah Payne.

There are many sides to any topic based on this subject, hopefully my comments throw open the more serious side for consideration...

I've just been honeymooning in Amsterdam (steady), and there is a sex shop there (Sexy Land), next door to a McDonald's. Be interesting to know which has the most meat.

I read an article in the Guardian recently saying that the UK porn laws have been relaxed, and more explicit stuff has been made legal. But I can't list what here ;-). It was bound to happen though, with the Internet making pretty much everything available anyway.

'Twas the porn industry that unofficially won the video cassette wars for VHS and them that pioneered many of the alternative DVD uses - being the first to use multi-angle and stuff like that.

I once saw an article which basically said the porn industry had a major influence on the shaping of the internet as we know it, especially the advances that occurred in streaming video. I do not know if the article was true but I can see the logic.

Why I see it, what you get up to behind closed doors is your own business. Does it harm anyone? Nope. Someone makes a pile of cash, someone else gets their rocks off - everyone's happy.

Same could be said about a lot of currently illegal things. If no one is harmed by it - why keep it illegal. Not giving examples as it could lead down a very strange route...
