I apologise for adding to the already quite large number of Splinter Cell 2 threads, but I want some tips on playing Multiplayer.

I get my head kicked in every time, and find myself running around like a headless chicken.

So far I've only played as the Merc, as this seems easiest. I don't know how you set traps. I thought it was left trigger for gadgets but I press it and nothing happens, do I have to be stood next to a wall or something? Also my gun won't zoom in when I press the right stick in, why?

Could those of you who have played this quite a bit give me a brief description of what all the weapons and gadgets do, and any tips for not getting killed for either of the characters. The tutorials in the game aren't a lot of help and it's damn frustrating getting hammered all the time.

Cheers

At this stage breaking someones neck is just a fantasy. I'm just trying to get my head round all the problems with vision, security systems and the rather limited 'weapon' set you get.

By problems I mean that you need to have thermals on most of the time to see laser beams etc, but that means that mercs can see you using their electromagnetic vision.

The sticky camera is handy for knocking them out, but aside from that you're a sitting duck once you've been spotted. I'll get there.

As for playing as the Merc, I quite enjoy it. You can unload on anything that moves, although with all the vision enhancement equipment you have, I find sometimes I'm too busy flicking through them all to see which works best, rather than hunting for Spies. And what's with that laser, does that do anything at all, apart from identify allies?

Give it it time young padawan, for the first few days of play I really sucked at spies. You'll find after a little while the spy controls will just click with you and you'll be sneaking round with the best of them, you just need to learn the levels and find all the shortcuts and other things.

One thing to note, don't try and snap peoples necks too often as a spy and when you do try to do it when they're not expecting it. I wouldn't bother attempting it after you've zapped them with the taser. Most times though you're better off just avoiding them, zapping them or confronting thm just alerts them to where you are which is never a good thing.

feeling a bit more at ease with the controls now. it's a damn good game, although it frustrates me sometimes that you can't shoot mercs when you're a spy. I suppose that would make it seriously unfair though.

XBOX live play is an eloborate game of hide and seek, filled with annoying Americans.

Once the single player is done, it's getting flogged. Like Jesus.

For gadgets like mines and Spy Traps, you need to be standing by a wall/object. They won't stick on some surfaces though, which is why nothing happens. Basically, they will plant wherever you aim your crosshair, so if it doesn't stick, try aiming at a different surface.

This can be a bit temperamental at times. I find the most trouble occurs when you're moving or if you just give a little click. Stand still (I don't know if you can actually move while scoping) and hold the R stick down until it zooms in. It annoys me sometimes as by the time you've zoomed in, the Spy has vanished!

oh, and I've tried gamefaqs before anyone suggests it, but no joy there.
