DK64 wasn't much like DKC. It was more exploring and mini games than platforming (i.e. it was great but not what I was hoping from a DK game).
The original Crash Bandicoot was based on Donkey Kong Country and follows it's good graphics, good platforming, neat bonus stages, lots to do, sections come in 3's (the first section introduces it, the second section expands it and the third section crams as much in as possible).
You just don't find games like that anymore with the simplicity of run, jump and roll (or spin in Crashes case).
I think Rare should consider this carefully.
