just though u all should see it
UT2004 is quite simply the online shooter perfected... ...and then tweaked a bit more to make it even better, not forgetting with its 70+ levels it has to be one of the best value and complete FPS packages around.
This game feels like a proper update to UT2003, it's not just UT2003 with a few extra maps and weapons, and the hardly noticable graphical update for good measure, well OK, it does contain new weapons and maps of which there are a LOT of them. But it does not stop there, disappointed fans of assault mode can rejoice because it's been included and updated for the 21st century in this version, it's back and it's better than ever! For those of you have never played the original UT, Assault plays like a futuristic Counter-Strike with one team battling to complete objectives and the other team trying to stop them. The only complaint I have about assault mode is the lack of maps (only 6 of them) but the variety and quality of the maps more than makes up for this.
The other new mode included is Onslaught. This is another team based game where you have to capture power nodes and destroy your enemy's power nodes with the overall objective being to capture all the nodes on the map and destroying your enemy's power core. This mode is great fun online especially with the inclusion of vehicles which brings me to my next point.
Vehicles have been included and include things like the Raptor fighter and the Halo style Hellbender which allows one player to drive, another on the side gun turret another one on the rear anti vehicle gun. Like all other aspects of the game the vehicles are well done and don't feel like a tacked on extra.
Like the other Unreal games, UT2004 is a visual treat (especially for those of us with more recent graphics cards) but you don't need a high spec machine to play the game (although a lot of disk space is required), The game ran admirably well on my old Geforce 3 Ti 200 graphics card on medium detail with an almost constant high frame rate.
The only real fault I can think of is "mouse lag" which some people seem to have with the game (Myself included). This makes some of the maps a pain to play because of it but hopefully this problem will be solved with a patch.
Also included is the UnrealEd level editor which is surprisingly easy to use (once you get the hang of it anyway) which allows complete customization of game modes and levels.
Overall UT2004 is an amazing game that oozes quality and is sure not to disappoint anyone who plays it. Online (and even offline with the amazing AI and much improved single player mode) this is the definitive first person shooter experience and a highly recommend you get your copy now and join in the online fun.
