Anyway after much cursing and after browsing the unreal website in a vain attempt to find a valid customer services link for the UK, I did the only thing left, KEYGEN style...
I dont feel guilty about it as I paid money for it, I am very opposed to game piracy but they should put more effort into rewarding those of us that still actually buy games. (on my Keygen hunt I came across Many Many cracked copies)
Anyway will I be able to play this on the official servers?
Otherwise Ill take it back to the retailer and demand it be swapped tomorrow...

It's not like they're gonna trace you and come round to your house.
If your CD key you got with the game didnt work then you should seek in getting a replacement. I had Raven Shield with my graphics card and that didnt come with a CD Key so I couldnt play it online, as you didnt need to CD Key to install. I got in touch with Ubisoft who asked for a reciept of the graphics card and I got my key.
In the mean time it wont hurt to have a illegal key but I wouldnt risk going online as I think you will only be able to play on cracked servers anyway.

I'm not following. Where's the risk?
So I uninstalled the game and scoured the net in earnest... after much Googling worships Google
I stumbled across a forum with users with the same key problems...
it turns out that due to the VERY wierd print font on the cd key
A & R, 8 & B, 7 & Z, M & N, V & U are very hard to distinguish!!
So after trial and error I have got my CD key to work, installing now...final test will be whether or not it lets me play online

I agree, in fact I've suffered this problem before. When my copy of Delta Force Black Hawk Down arrived it didn't come with a cd-key and therefore I couldn't install it. After sending an e-mail to novalogic they basically said "send it back and get a replacement" but I wasn't prepared to wait even longer to play the game, baring in mind I got the game before the weekend so I probably wouldn't have got a replacement for a fair few days. I should rightfully have been playing it there and then, so I did what I've never done before, went on the net and got a cd-key from there.
I don't feel guilty, I'm a loyal customer to the game industry, never use pirate software, but I do expect when I pat upwards of £30 for a game, for it to arrive intact. I shouldn't have to go on the web and search for a cd-key because someone misplaced mine.
