Looking at thmy back catalogue of movies I found a dusty thick video hidden at the back of the shelf. I grabbed the plastic box and blew the dust covering the title of the film. 'The Last Temptation of Christ'! and a large picture of William Dafoe donning a crown of nettles.

Oh heaven help. When was the last time I have embraced such a beautiful and true film. I sure most of you have seen the film before but just for the others here's a quick summary.

No prizes for guessing that the film is about Jesus Christ. But unlike the conventional stories surrounding the magic man, the film criticises him, it criticises God, the devil, faith, love, hatred, lust and every other emotions humans encounter throughout their holy life. In this particular film, Jesus does not like who he is, he's afraid of God so he does all the right things. He even makes the crosses to hang Jews as he is afraid of the Romans. Like all great films The Last Temptation of Christ makes you think about the film during and after it.

The sad thing about this film is that it's not always recognised as Scorsese's best. Terrribly underated and it is not even seen as a rgeat film in many people's eyes. The film does linger on a bit, about 2 1/2 hours but the whole film is pumping with creativity and stunning visuals. The acting is superb with Dafoe and Keitel still kicking it like there's a weasel in their toga. Script comes from Paul Schrader so you can't go wrong there and directions from Scorsese and with Raging Bull and Taxi Drivers under his belt, amoung many it's bound to be creative and rich experience.

One thing most people wouldn't know is that Scorsese wanted to make this film since day one.He trained as a priest and luckily, he lost faith in his faith and became a film maker. Knowing this allows you to take a huge step into Scorses emotions, you can see Scorsese as Jesus questioninghis life and God.

This film is just amazing so watch it, if you're a strong Christian and think that you may fin dthe film offensive it's even better, it allows you tro think for yourself about your faith instead of hopping into cause your mother took you to church every Sunday.
