The following are my opinions. You will probably have your own opinions and they will probably differ from mine. To me, the top 3 picked themselves as they really stood out.
10. Colin McRae Dirt 2
Racing games are my strong point so it is no surprise to see a racing game or 2 make this list. Dirt 2 is to be the last game to feature Colin McRae's name and it is fitting that it is a massive improvement over the original game in the series.
9. GTA Chinatown Wars
It is a little surprising that the sales figures don't match the quality of the game as Chinatown Wars is one of the best games on the DS.
8. Modern Warfare 2
Yes, I have Modern Warfare 2 at 8 on my list. While it is still a quality product and one of the best, if not the best, multiplayer games around, I feel that there are better games this year that give an all round experience.
7. InFamous
Difficult to find the words for this one. It is a great PS3 exclusive and you could say it was electric. Okay, I'll get my coat...
6. Street Fighter IV
Fighting games had been going through the motions for a while but Street Fighter 4 got people talking about fighting games again. Accessible for a variety of skill levels and a whole lot of fun. A little bit of a shame that this will probably become obselete when the Super version comes out.
5. Forza 3
I don't really have to say much here. Forza 3 is probably the best racing game available. Similar to Street Fighter in that it is accessible to a players of different skill levels, has a ton of customisation options and cars coming out of your ears.
4. Dragon Age Origins
I'm not much of an RPG player but this one had even me interested. Bioware tend to produce story heavy games and this was no exception but the sheer amount of play time you can get out of this is staggering.
3. Shadow Complex
It is testament to the developers that a XBLA game makes my top 3. Shadow Complex may lean on some styles from the past but it is very clever in the way it works. You can play it, following the path it sets out, you could go and get every item available or you ignore the path and effectively break the game. It even encourages it as some of the challenges available require you to break the game sequence to complete them. Very clever in its design and execution.
2. Batman: Arkham Asylum
It was pretty close between this game and the game I have at number 1. Looking back, there really hasn't been a Batman game worth the name but this more than makes up for that. Arkham Asylum is an awesome game that is full of atmosphere and focuses on what Batman does best.
1. Uncharted 2
In the end, I couldn't put anything else here. In my eyes, this is the game of 2009. It has great gameplay, great story, great graphics and amazing set pieces It added a multiplayer mode which is very good but, in a way, it didn't really need it. It has come a long way in a short period of time since the first Uncharted.
So that just leaves my game of the decade. I thought more along the lines of what games were to what they are now and what brought them kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
I thought along the lines of World of Warcraft and what that has done for social gaming on a grand scale. I thought about what Halo did for first person shooters and multiplayer. Perhaps the first Modern Warfare for taking that a step further. Perhaps Counterstrike for what it has done for squad based shooters. There are a few more but I think only 1 stands out above them all.
My Game of the Decade is: GTA3
San Andreas and Vice City may have done it all bigger and better but GTA3 was what started it all off. To think it was back in 2001 when this was released, the media response and where games, open world or otherwise, went to after this, I believe this was the catalyst.
I'm sure you have your own list or ideas about 2009 or the past decade. Thanks for reading and here's hoping for another great decade of games.
As for Game of the Year, it was a pretty good year. It's rare that I have to cut games off the list as sometimes finding 3 was difficult in past years.
Let me know your lists if you want to make one.
> This is a list for games of 2009, not the decade :S Game of the
> decade as i say, has to be either GTA 3 or CoD 4
Game of the Decade is quite clearly mentioned young man and me and Alfonse are just 'thinking' on line:-))
Crysis:Warhead (far better than Crysis)
Bioshock
Prey
Original Fear + two expansion packs
Doom3 - Resurrection of Evil
Star Wars:Republic Commando
Rainbow Six:Lockdown
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Super Mario Galaxy
Bioshock
Half-life 2
Counter-Strike: Source
Shenmue 2
GTA: San Andreas
