I guess I'm aiming this post towards GWD, Hmmm... or anybody who hosts more than one domain name / web site with Freeola.

Just curious as to how it works really, as previously it looked like you could create a web space (and give it a reference name), then assign a domain name to it, which was what I was going to do, but now that option seems to have gone.

Is this still possible, and it's now just a case of having to register / transfer in the domain name first before being able to create the web space for it?

Thanks for any pointers.

Yep, that's correct. There's no redirecting or anything involved.

I think it's just standard mapping? Where "hmmm.com" may be mapped to "/freeola/users/ ... htdocs", and adding another domain name is mapped to the same "/freeola/users/ ... htdocs" location, rather than being pointed to previously set domain names.

Hi loki,
All I was after was finding out how you 'point to the same webspace'. What method is in use?

i.e. You don't seem to be using an HTTP 301 or 302 redirect.
Some hosts just use a frameset, I can see you don't do that.
It doesn't look like a Meta Redirect either...

Hi, sorry for the delay, only just saw this reply.

I'm not sure I really understand the question though. If multiple domain names are pointing to the same webspace folder with multiple URLs pointing at the same file, all the addresses will work in exactly the same way, and return the page in exactly the same way.

Sorry, I'm probably not being very helpful. But if you explain the question a little further I'll try and do better next time!

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I've registered a Freeola500 address for the time being, and hopefully can just point the domain name to that web space and delete the address once the transfer is complete.

Thanks for the reply loki. That's what I see.

But can you say how Freeola 'share' webspace when someone chooses to point domain names to the same page?

As far as I'm aware, any address pointed at a webspace (assuming that the page exists in a valid format) will return a HTTP 200 OK status. This is because, even if you have 10 addresses pointing to one website, none of them are actually redirecting.

If you are changing pages to a new address and want to avoid Google duplication issues, the only way I know to achieve this would be to point the old address to a different webspace folder, which would contain a file that returns an HTTP 301 status and uses PHP to redirect the browser to the correct file name in your main webspace folder.

My appologies for hijacking the post :p

Yes, they want to have access to setting up email addresses etc so it looks as though I'll create a seperate account for them to use with the Web Freedom.

Cheers Hmmm...

I don't beleive this can be done. What webspace options are you trying to make available? If it's FTP you can give them this without MyFreeola as long as they connect via Freeola.
For Email setup you would have to give them access to MyFreeola - for most of my clients I look after everything for them. But for the ones that want to have access to everything I have to separate their account from my Freeola portfolio and set up their own MyFreeola account - which as you say won't go towards your discount.

Glad to see other Freeola users starting to post here :¬)

Hi cjh,
As Drazen says all these options are available in MyFreeola.

When you register a new domain or transfer a name in you are given the option to 'point' the domain to an existing site in your Freeola portfolio or create a new web site.

You can use MyFreeola to change these settings at a later stage if you should change your mind...

Question for Freeola:
When sites are configured to point to the same web space can you say what method you use? For correct SEO, Google etc. all say an HTTP 301 (permanently moved) redirection should be put in place. Running an HTTP Header check tool against domains I have configured to use the same space returns a normal HTTP 200 which in theory could mean your site could end up with a duplicate content penalty.
I have seen this cause a problem in the past and ended up splitting the domains and created a single page of content pointing to the original domain to avoid any SE problems.
