When you have owned your N64 for a bit, the control become horrible to use, the 3D stick grinds against movement and is not what it once was, wanna know how to clean it?
Only actually do the following if you have a spare hour or two (its worth it).
1. Carefully unscrew the bottom of the control, there are two screws in the memory card slot, unscrew these last...
2. Carefully remove the back of the control, watching the L and R shoulder buttons and attachments don't fly anywhere!
3. with the open control looking at your face you will see a 3D control box with a few wires coming out of the top.
**Never (unless you have another five hours) open the 3D control box fully, this can be done if you want to super clean it back to amazing sensitivity, however you will seriously need a long time intertweening all the little parts and closing the box. I wouldn't recommend you doing this**
4. You will notice you can open the box a small amount and see a spring and there it is, all the white dry sweat that has collected up over the years!
5. Googles are not needed but you should get something like a cocktail stick and carefully remove the gritt and crap from the plastic compartment.
6. When you are happy that its clean(er) give it a few blows, and place the L&R buttons back and close up the control (carefully).
7. There you go, wiggle the control stick around, its a lot cleaner and nicer to use!
Happy Gaming!

Note: This would be a perfect oppertunity to have a dig about quality, but I won't because I'm a mature gamer unlike a lot of Nintys I could mention.
It has flown out for me before but I luckilt found it!!
They work great after this don't they!!
:D
Well thank you ER-NO for your help, after i found that massive spring that flew out and cleaning all that dry sweat off my clothes (it stains, watch out for the dry sweat!), it works fine now.
thanks again ER-NO

Yeap, one of mine has been done!
I just scrape it out and sell it to that weird bloke down the pub.
