At £350 plus you get a lot of bang for your buck, but considering you can get a Geforce2 GTS Card second hand for about £90 I ask is it worth it?
I will get one as the is such a big leap from GeForce2. I will buy not until it's £90
no doubt we will have a period where people buy these titles just to test their new piece of kit, but they're soon going to look past these and realise how shallow the game is if the play itself isn't up to scratch. Not suggested for a moment that either of the ones I mentioned wont be, I have high hopes for both, but the FPS genre is starting to look a little tired..
Possibly because none of them are specifically coded to use it, but still.
I can play in higher resolutions, but to be honest I rarely go above 1024x768 anyway.
At least I'm prepared for future games, though...
The GF3 was hailed as the biggest step up in Graphics cards since the original 3d accelerators were launched, and rightly so in my opinion. While the GF2 is predominantly a more powerful GeForce, much as the upgrades in the Voodoo series were, the GeForce3 really could be released under a new brand..it's a great deal more powerful than anything before, but the GeForce name is already associated with one of the most impressive groups of chipsets.
nVidia have no real competition in the graphics market now, and so there's no-one pushing them to develop new technologies and challenge their prices. This means that it's pretty much up to them when they advance the power and bring out another new chipset, but the GF3 had been so widely publicised that it doesn't seem likely for quite some time yet. Equally, there is no-one making them lower their prices, so expect to see the high end versions staying at £300 or so for a while. There will be the obligatory budget versions sooner or later, which will no doubt still be impressive, but I'd rather save for a proper one. Not much to go now..
Oh, and it was officially released sometime in late February, I think..
