The "Freeola Customer Forum" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
There are a few steps involved. Here I’m explaining what works for me, but as always with PC’s there are always lots of different ways to achieve the same result.
The first step is to download your chosen video
When you watch YouTube the video is in FLV (Flash Video) format. You can root around in your ‘temporary internet files’ after watching a video to find the file or use one of the many websites that simplify this for you. For this example I am using www.keepvid.com http://keepvid.com/
After finding your video, copy the YouTube link from the address bar (it will look something like
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYZzzz1234A) then visit keepvid.com and paste the address in to the space provided. Click Download then look for the link to appear called >>Download Link<<
Clicking on this will allow you to save the file to your PC – make sure you give it an flv file type.
That’s the first step complete – you have now downloaded the video to your PC.
Some people may only want to view the videos on their PC. To do this you need to have an FLV Player. I use this free player from Applian http://applian.com/flvplayer/index_martijn.php Follow the FLV Player link to download and install – You can now play all your favourite videos without having to even access the internet!
Converting to other video formats
To convert the FLV file to 3gp (for mobile phones) or mpeg4 (Sony PSP) etc. then I can recommend a program called SUPER (not a great name!) from eRightSoft.net http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html Download and install SUPER – you will then be able to convert the flv files into your chosen format ready to copy to your phone etc. for hours of enjoyment!
My son now goes to school watching BBC’s Top Gear etc. on the bus – keeps him happy…
