What Im talking about is sequels to games that have very little changes from the original game. There have been so many games that are sequels, the likes of tomb raider, resident evil, final fantasy, fifa ( any EA sports series). As you might have already guessed Im a PSX and PS2 owner so I can't really comment on games on other consoles as I don't own or play them.
I recently read a preview for SSX Tricky and as I couldn't afford the original I thought I might buy this one when it comes out. One thing I noticed is that the differences between SSX Tricky and the original SSX are minimal, a few extra courses and characters. This is ok for people who don't own the original but for those who do it must be disapointing to just see a "polished" up version of the game they already own.
The worst developer for this must be EA sports. They produce so many sports games and the only main difference is the number at the end of the title. This isn't really fair for those who own the original and want something new and better as they really liked the original. So why do developers get away with it? Main reason is because people will still buy them anyway. Instead of making a new game they just make the previous version look and play a little better.
The likes of the Tomb Raider has been hugely popular with most gamers ( I personaly hate it). Yet the difference between the first game and the last one is also minimal, ok a few new weapons/vehicles and the sceenery looks a little different but other than that its not much of an improvement.
So the question I ask to the rest of you is this: Would you rather wait longer for a game to be released if it is a much better improvment of the original or are you happy with the way things are?

I think that its time to start making changes as the

Why do people feel the need to purchase sequels that don’t add very much to the game...
Especially since they always feel let down after, even though they knew that there was very little difference before purchase?
Its something I've done myself once or twice, and I know some people who fall for it every time. Always buying a sequel to a game they aren’t that fussed about, but about which everyone raves...
I did this with populous... I purchased populous after reading so many rave reviews, and being told how amazing it was by my mates... however after purchase, I wasn’t all that fussed...
Then the sequel came out... and the magazines raved again, and my friends once again told me how amazing it was... and despite knowing that I wasn’t all that fussed about the original, I still splashed out on the sequel, only to discover that it was exactly what I was expecting.
If a sequel comes out, which you know is pretty much the same as the last in the series, why not, instead, buy every second upgrade...
Maybe you could spend the money you'd saved on purchasing a 'risk' title (a titles which could either be amazing or complete crap) ???
Anyway… What is the attraction to buying these kinds of sequel?
