There are similar, probably cheaper alternatives, but this unit is what I have. It's a modem and router in one. It's powered by the mains so you don't need the main computer to be turned on. With only the Xbox on, it acts like a direct connection anyway. Everything is pisss easy to set up on it.

There's four ports and it's wireless too, so (depending on how many computers are on your network) you shouldn't be strapped for connection space.

I can't guarantee this will fix your lag situation, but I can guarantee it has done for me.

Well, as for the connection, basically my Bocks is on a network with other computers, one of which has to be on to start up t'internet, obviously. When I'm playing Live I have all the stuff on the computer turned off so there should be no lag. This does not work.

I would do a direct connection, but alas, I have no idea how.

Hmm, I have the standard 512kb connection too. Is it a direct connection, through a router or using ICS?


As for 3 stars, what game? Different games have different ratings i.e. in R63, 3 stars means excellent connection.

Just the standard 512kb connection with 256kb upload speed. It's not great I know, but meh, I don't pay for it so I shouldn't really grumble. The yanks are the worst for me, although I can't tell who’s from where, all the games just seem to have 3 stars for me, but some are obviously worse than others.
Maybe I'm doing something terribly wrong.

Avast, I agree. Matt used to get quite enraged all the time about me never being on, but I think now he's just given up.
