Another Console War topic! I know, I know, these keep on getting done, but this forum needs to be livened up, and what better way to do it than with a console war topic. It is going to be a hard job as a lot of things have already been covered, but hopefully, I can make this a console war topic worth reading and getting people back in this forum. After all, console wars at the moment are the future of gaming.

I shall start of buy saying, that the title doesn't really mean a thing at the moment, as there really isn't a console war going on at the moment is there. The PS2 is really the only 128-bit console out now, with the Dreamcast hanging on by a thread because of some stunning games becoming available. There are only two handhelds, both of which made by Nintendo, so there is no handheld console there really is there.
So, I will talk about how the future is shaping up for the three 128-bit consoles and the future console war between them.

So then, how shall I begin. How about the 128-bit console that is available at the moment. The PS2. Great console. After a rocky start, with developers rushing to get out launch games, there are actually some truly stunning games arriving on our shores. Onimusha, Red Faction, and the recently released GT3, are all trully stunning games, as I expect most PS2 owners will agree. There are still tonnes more to come as well, with MGS2 on the horizon, and the likes of Jak and Daxter and Stuntman also heading our way, the gaming future is bright for the PS2, and can certainly give both the Xbox and the Gamecube a run for their money. And the games will get even better as developers get more and more used to the PS2 hardware.
Sony will also most likely drop the price of the PS2 again to compete with the other two 128-bit competitors, probably bringing out more affordable packages (hopefully).
There is alos the online prospect, with the PS2 being able to go online by the end of the year. There is also the Hard Drive as well. I know add-ons in the past didn't do that well, but this could change with this new piece of kit, which will give the PS2 40Gb of extra Storage space, meaning you can download music, games, films and tonnes of other things as well.
More and more reasons to buy a PS2 are appearing every month. Sony are definately trying the hardest to not make it easy for Nintendo and Microsoft.

What about the two 128-bit consoles that aren't released yet, the Nintendo Gamecube and Microsoft's Xbox. More and more information is becoming available each month. News on games, online developments and more besides.
The games on both consoles are looking very interesting and are already looking brilliant, even at this early stage. I am particularly looking forward to a Perfect Dark game on the Gamecube and the exclusive to Xbox Dead or Alive 3.
Both of this consoles will be going head-to-head when they are almost both released at the same time in America (I am not sure about release dates over here), and the Gamecube will also be $100 less than the Xbox. Add this to the fact that the Gamecube will be released three days earlier than the Xbox, and this could give Nintendo a good kick start. The Xbox will also face problems from Sony as well, as the PS2 will also be cheaper as well. I am not counting Xbox out here, just saying that it will be a problem.

All in all, when the Gamecube and Xbox are finally released, there will be a full scale war between the three major parties; Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. There will be price drops here, stunning games there, and nobody will give up. Only the future will tell which will be the victor, if there is one (they may all be just as successful as each other), and after all, that is what this forum is all about, isn't it, the future of gaming. So come on, get those views in.

The consoles will even out. There wont really be a war this time, as the machines are all good.

The games on the Cube are going to have to be REALLY good for me to buy another box, the missus would go ballistic!

You know what the problem is?

The zealots have been forced out of the FOG forums, and everyone is too nice.

Every now and again something will flair up when one of the consoles comes into criticism, but it's not often enough!

Besides, I agree with what others have said, the market is big enough for all three, as they could all appeal to different types of gamers.

I'll choose the GAMECUBE. It has games I want to play, and fun games that I can play with my family.

I hope that there are massive console wars between the big 3 when the GC and X-box are released.

This hopefully might prompt price cuts on the consoles - i'd love to be able to afford a Gamecube and X-box to sit next to my PS2.

Hmmm. A console wars topic which is unbiased, fair and optimistic. The perfect way to wrap up the genre of topic. Well done Gohan!

To be honest Game, your probably right, there probably won't be a loser or a winner, they may all be as successful as each other. I really hope this happens because then everyone is happy.

To be honest, and don't see this as a lame cop-out, I can't see there being a loser. I mean People will buy Playstation 2's because it's Playstation, people will buy Nintendo because the Gamecube's great and there are loads of great games. And people will buy Microsoft because of the games... Halo looks great and with Unreal Champ Man and loads of other franchises Microsoft can't really lose!

Nintendo may sell more systems but Microsoft may have a high % of quality games. Sony may have a few exclusives, but nothing that Nintendo can't compete with.

I really do think that if Nintendo advertise and market the Gamecube right they'll be on a level par with the Playstation 2 in no time. The X-Box might need a price drop to get into peoples homes, BUT it'll get these... one game, whether it be Malice, Abe's Exodus or Unreal Championship will sell the X-Box.

The same could happen with the Gamecube... People love Mario and Zelda, as soon as they see the Zelda graphics or Mario gameplay they'll come running... it's all down to taste. There are about 6 million gamers out there that need a console in times of boredom and funlessness.... if that's a word, and at least one of the companies will be able to provide.

I think a major christmas seller for the Gamecube will be Star Wars: Rogue Leader. For the X-Box it'll be er... Project Gotham and GT3 and Onimusha 2 for the PS2.

I honestly can't see a loser this time around. The games will be great, the graphics will be unmatched....

I think that the main console war will be between Microsoft and Sony.

Both have similar material which is aimed at the same audience.

Nintendo have a unique audience (and don't say the kiddies!!) and being cheap with some pretty unique games, most hardcore gamers will buy one, possibly to sit along side their Xbox or PS2.

And with Nintendo owning the handheld market the GBA is garaunteed success. This success will be shared with the Gamecube as people will want one to enhance the options of their handheld.

So I think that the market will be with Nintendo who will be semi-competing with the other two who will be fighting for the position of most successful multimedia gamesplaying machine.

As I said in my post, ther isn't really a console war going on at the moment, hence, the topic wasn't really a console war topic, just a look at the consoles, the title was just a crack at getting people to have a look at least, hence the 'definitive': it made you look didn't it. Yes, most of what I said had been covered before, but then again, a lot of the topics nowadays mostly contain things that have already been covered.

As more and more information comes out, new topics will arrise, but at the moment, there aren't many things to write about.
