Well I didn't mention it before but several nights ago we had a break-in. Well I wouldnt call it a break-in, as they just got into out conservatory (not bricked, just wood and glass, my dad made it).

As some of you know we've been trying to sell this house since the summer (that makes it sounds like no one wants this house but we sold it twice in the second week, it's just the first family backed out at the last minute). We have a moving out date of March 15th. Which is why I'm hurrying my site so I can be gone by then. Anyway over the summer and autum we had to throw lots of things away from our garden. Quite a big garden 44m long, I had the pleasure of destroying the old greenhouse and shed and turning our 2 gardens (one a lawn and the other a jungle) into one big garden.

Most of the work was done but there were a few things we still needed to get rid of. I think my mum took a few things to the tip and over Christmas and most of winter we had left the garage doors wide open. I know that seems daft but we have a very long driveway that dips down a bit. You can fit about 6 cars in there. So it's quite a distance from the road and you can only see it when there arent cars blocking the view.

Well long story short, some kids (probably) finally took the oppurtunity to venture down our drive way, through the open garage and around our house where they found our conservatory. It wasn't locked, but there was a bit of wire holding the door closed, a stick could have got it loose but I guess they weren't too smart. They just pulled on the top half of the door and broke it, which shattered the glass and most likely fell on them.

What was there to steal? Well while I was away in Singapore, my brother suddenly started fixing his friends bike. God knows why, he just calls my brother to taxi him around anyway. So yeah the bike we wanted him to take back months ago was now gone. Also with the bike, went a few cans of Fosters my older brother and cousin couldnt finish off. Oh and several bottles of wine, some cheap some not so cheap. (Well I consider 7 not so cheap).

That's pretty much it really. I'm suprised I didn't hear all this because I sleep in the second lounge which is right next to the conservatory. I suppose they took advantage of the strong winds that already made lots of noise to mask any they made.

We have had things stolen from us in the past. Nothing major though, a couple of half barrels with flowers and a bird bath stolen from our front garden (years ago). I guess they just came along in a van and helped themselves. Another time my dads wing mirror was stolen from his car which was parked in the driveway.

Of course all this has gone unreported to the police, do you think they would even do anything about it? Probably not. Sometimes I wish I could just set a trap and wait for them. Sure I would get satisfaction from beating the crap out of them, but then I'd probably be the one ending up in jail.

Anyway my story doesn't end there, it seems last night or today, they came back. This time my mum had closed both the doors in the garage. Well the first was broken already, it was being held closed by several bricks placed behind it. They must have forced it really hard as they broke the bottom bit off the door. Unfortunately for them the second door was locked and they certainly weren't going to be able to force this door open so they must have given up.

To make sure they never get through again I have beefed up all the defenses. Sure they'll still get through if they really wanted to, but it'll take them a good 20 minutes and a hell of a lot of noise. Watching all those Home Alone movies has finally come in handy =D

There's nothing worth stealing in the conservatory now though, I've mainly done it so my mum can feel a little more safe. I'm sure when we move in 2 months she'll invest in a proper security system, or something.

Someone tried to break into our house a couple of years ago just a few days before Christmas.
Was about 5 in the morning and I woke up after hearing a noise in our back garden. We live near a woodland area so it's pretty dark and quiet at night.
Anyways I see a torch light through my blinds so I get out of bed and tell my dad someone is trying to get in. I head downstairs and as I'm entering the kitchen I hear the glass in the door smash - as I get to the back door I can hear the guy running down the side of the house.

Guess the window smashing was too loud for him or he heard me, either way he didn't get in. Police came round and went to look for him as someone had done a few other houses nearby over the past week so they were keen to find him - they didn't.

Does leave you with a pretty rotten feeling knowing someone out there tried to take something from you. Certainly makes me think twice when I hear something at night in the garden.

The worst thing about having stuff stolen is the feeling it leaves you with. Last thing I had stolen was a Microwave. We'd just bought it and left it in the kitchen of our shared house. Someone else in the house left the kitchen door unlocked and, you guessed it, the Microwave went missing.

We never found out if the door had been left intentionally open by one of the people we shared the house with, but we have our suspicions.

My nan (in er 80's) had her jewellery stolen at the end of last year. That was worse, I can imagine it made her feel far less secure in her house.

I just wish the people who did it would realise just how bad it makes people feel. Makes you sick to think there are people that can do stuff like that in the first place.

Hmm perhaps I should have put this in Life, ah well, feel free to talk about your experiences.

Oh I suppose I could mention my mp3 getting stolen again. My mum had an mp3 player, but it broke and I had just used 3 GADs buying a new mp3 player for myself. It was great learning languages with all the audio lessons I had. Anyway she was off to the Isle of Wight so I lent it to her.

Big mistake, one of the cleaning girls must have fancied it and took it from her bedside draw. Of course I wasnt happy about this and my mum did report it to the hotel and the police but have no idea what happened after.
